Legal Assistant

Higgins, Hopkins, McLain & Roswell is a busy civil litigation law firm looking for an efficient, organized Legal Assistant. Some experience in a law firm, and preferably as a legal assistant in a civil litigation firm, is preferred, but we are willing to mentor and train the right person. $50,000+ yearly DOE

• Handle incoming and outgoing filings through CCEF and other court and arbitration platforms
• Calendar court and other case deadlines
• Communicate with clients, insurance companies, and experts
• Draft certain pleadings
• Review/edit letters and pleadings

• Some knowledge of legal software, case management, and docketing programs
• Organizational skills and communication skills are necessary for this position
• Candidates should be able to type at least 50 words per minute
• Must be able to prioritize tasks with demanding deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment

• Able to work full-time in the office. This is not a remote position, but can turn into a hybrid position for the right candidate after the first 6 months
• Experience working with Microsoft Office products
• 1-2 years of prior experience in a civil law firm environment as a legal assistant or paralegal
• An associate’s degree or some college is preferred; a high school diploma or equivalent is necessary
• Newly certified paralegals are encouraged to apply. Every firm has different terminology for its support staff. This may be what you think of as a paralegal position
