Position Purpose:
This position will support our Fixed Market - permanent installation projects and new venue build for theaters, theme parks, museums and immersive attractions.
The Lead Technical Director is responsible for directing and managing the design and implementation of technical systems throughout the lifecycle of a project. The Lead Technical Director shepherds technical concepts throughout the design, engineering, fabrication, and delivery process and is empowered to speak on behalf of the original technical vision and requirements. The Lead TD partners closely with all project members throughout the project lifecycle; as teamwork, communication, and buy-in on technical solutions from all partners are all a vital part of successful technical delivery.
The Lead TD understands client requirements, technical realities and possibilities, and gives clear directions to vendors, designers, engineers, and other partners on the type and nature of the technical solution required to meet the client brief. They are also able to communicate to the client, in appropriate terms, the technical solution that will deliver on the creative vision.
The Lead TD will be called upon to act as a subject matter expert to assist other projects and/or Technical Directors as required. The Lead TD will mentor and lead others on the Technical Direction team as required and has a detailed level of understanding of TAIT’s internal processes and assets as they relate to their specific projects and assignments. The Lead TD will be responsible for large, complicated projects and will be required to lead other Technical Directors on various projects.
A Lead TD has extensive experience and a proven record of leading complex projects. They have the ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously while providing subject matter expert level input to other teams and TDs.
The Lead TD position is the highest level a Technical Director can reach while still directly leading projects.
Essential Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Extensive knowledge of all the technical aspects of assigned projects, commonly including but not limited to, audio, video, lighting, control, rigging, mechanical, and scenic elements.
- A Lead TD will be required to act as a subject matter expert and advise other TDs/Project Teams.
- Technical overview and responsibility for the suitability of the designed system to meet the requirements of the client's vision.
- Ensure that all safety standards, policies, and procedures are followed, both in the design and the installation of the solution.
- Deliver technical solutions that match project schedule and budget.
- Work closely with assigned partners to iterate designs and ensure correct processes are followed.
- Work with the client-facing team members to provide progress updates while also providing updates directly to the client as required.
- Ensure any site requirements specific to the technical delivery are identified and incorporated into the overall technical design.
- When required, liaise and interface with any external agencies and partners (e.g. architects, permitting, OSHA, HSE) throughout the project to ensure technical compliance and information sharing.

- Stay up to date on industry trends, technology and best practices in your area(s) of expertise.
- Ability to work effectively in both office and site locations. Site locations will vary depending on assigned projects, but may include construction sites, large music venues, hotels, convention centers, rehearsal and/or integration spaces, etc. Site locations may be indoor or outdoor.
- Ability to communicate effectively with local/regional hires and partners with varying levels of experience. These may include local Unions, building trades, general contractors, etc.
- Have excellent interpersonal & communication skills, both verbal & written.

Minimum Qualifications:
To perform the essential responsibilities, individuals must have the following level of education and experience, or equivalent combination. Additionally, the following certifications, knowledge, skills, or physical requirements are necessary for the position.

- Minimum of 10 years experience, plus demonstrated performance in the production and delivery of multiple projects.
- Functional competencies in staging, rigging, show action, audio, lighting, and video production.
- Excellent competencies in one or more of the functional competencies listed above.
- Previous experience leading technical project teams.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Working knowledge of various CAD programs.
Travel:
- National and international travel may be required depending on assigned projects.
- May require extended relocation for construction, installation, commissioning and programming phases of projects as assigned.
- Work conditions may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions.
- Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work within or visit areas where required. This includes, safety glasses, reflective vest, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, and other PPE as required by the location.
- Work on-site may include office environments, assembly facilities, and active construction sites.

Salary commensurate with experience: $140,000 - $155,000
