The Position::

The Lead Operations & Logistics Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring seamless daily operations across Headfirst’s nine summer camp locations. This hands-on, highly collaborative role supports the systems, materials, and on-site logistics that allow our programs to run smoothly and deliver a high-quality experience for campers, families, and staff.

Ideal for individuals interested in event operations, coordination, and large-scale logistics, this “jack-of-all-trades” position oversees on-site operations, materials management, and real-time problem-solving across multiple locations. The Lead Operations & Logistics Coordinator serves as a key extension of Headfirst Headquarters, supporting consistency, efficiency, and readiness throughout the summer.

Location & Travel: This is a seasonal, in-person role reporting to the Managers of Headfirst’s Youth Camp division.


This role involves frequent driving, travel, and work across Headfirst’s nine summer camp locations in Washington, DC; Bethesda, MD; and Oakton, VA, as well as our warehouse in Silver Spring, MD, with occasional visits to Headfirst Headquarters in NW Washington, DC. Some locations are not accessible via public transportation; reliable transportation is required.


Schedule:

  • In-season (late June through mid-August): 8:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday – Friday
  • Pre-season (early June): select weekends for training and site preparation

Compensation: $19 / hour


What You'll Do::

Operational Oversight & Logistics

  • Lead & support a team of nine on-site Operations Coordinators, ensuring they have the materials and logistical support needed.
  • Problem-solve inventory needs, ordering and delivering materials across sites as required.
  • Ensure each site is fully prepared for the upcoming week, including printing curriculum and coordinating supplies.
  • Support Site Directors with day-to-day logistics, including filling in for leadership call-outs when needed.
  • Drive between multiple site locations to deliver materials, check on operations, and provide direct support.

 Quality Control & On-Site Support

  • Act as an extension of Headfirst Headquarters, ensuring all sites meet branding and operational standards.
  • Oversee carpool efficiency, ensuring signage, setup, and external-facing details are professional and on-brand (e.g., ensuring staff have name tags).
  • Provide basic tech support to sites, troubleshooting any operational challenges as they arise.

 Warehouse & Materials Management

  • Coordinate materials pick-up and drop-off at the warehouse as needed.
  • Maintain inventory organization and cleanliness—ensuring materials are accessible and ready for use.
  • Strategically pack and track materials to ensure all sites receive the necessary supplies.

Handle the Curveballs

  • No two days are the same at Headfirst! Be ready to jump into unexpected challenges, support cross-functional projects, and adapt to dynamic needs throughout the summer.

About You::
  • Must be at least 20 years old with at least (2) years at an undergraduate institution or equivalent professional experience.  
  • Must: 
    • Have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Have your own vehicle to transport materials from our warehouse to multiple site locations. Be comfortable driving a large cargo van on occasion. 
    • Commute to all Headfirst facilities across DC, MD, and VA. 
    • Work around small children including, sitting, standing, running, and climbing stairs for the full day. 
    • Work in hot and outdoor environments while actively supervising campers and participating in dynamic activities for extended periods of time.  
    • Lift and carry up to 30 pounds frequently.  
    • Be committed to adhering to the Cell-Phone Free policy, powering down and putting away cell phones in a locked pouch for the duration of your shift.  
  • Required Certification
    • First Aid & CPR Certification required, or the ability to complete these prior to May 30, 2025.  
    • A valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and ability to safely operate a golf cart and/or your personal vehicle for materials transport.
