The Lead Medical Assistant is a back-office support staff member working as clinical support for all medical providers, including pediatric and adult medicine. The Lead Medical Assistant has direct supervisory responsibility for all medical assistants, including daily assignments and call-ins. The Lead Medical Assistant will solve problems and resolve medical assistant issues, escalating to the Clinic Director only when necessary.
Work Schedule:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00am - 5:00pm with flexibility to work 10:00am - 7:00pm and occasional Saturdays as required.
Responsibilities:- Assists with disciplinary actions including verbal and written warnings in collaboration with the Clinic Director.
- Responsible for ordering, inventory and maintaining sufficient levels of vaccines.
- Plans and delivers training and in-services with input/support from Clinic Director and Director of Nursing.
- Works with the Clinic Director regarding employment (hiring/terminating) of MAs.
- Responsible for maintaining clinical workflow.
- Responsible for assisting Clinic Director with MA performance evaluations.
- Prints hospital and lab reports (as back up for medical records).
- Assigns MA visits and assigns staff to clean labs, nursing stations and charting stations.
- Care Team Responsibilities as outlined in the Care Team Patient Center Medical Home procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required.
- Associate degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or six months to one year of related experience and training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
- Medical Assistant certification is required.
- Current CPR certification is required.
- Minimum of one year of work experience as a medical assistant preferred.
- Prior experience leading/supervising group of Medical Assistants highly desired.
- EPIC Electronic Health Records experience preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to delegate as necessary to medical assistants.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) language skills required.
- Excellent communication verbal and written communication in English.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact with patients and clinic staff.
- Must be reliable with ability to follow through on tasks.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office software/Outlook.
- Ability to work in fast-paced clinic environment.
- Ability to supervise and lead by example.
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Fulfill immunization and fit for duty regulatory requirements.
- Prolonged standing, walking, and prolonged periods sitting at desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at times and move medical equipment.
- Fine motor hand movements typical of performing standard medical procedures.
- Able to read charts graphs and readings on medical equipment.
- While most work is performed in clinic, may occasionally work outdoors and in inclement weather.
