LAV Maintenance Trainer

The LAV Maintenance Trainer opening is a current vacant position at General Dynamics Land Systems – Canada.  The base salary hiring range for this position is $70,400 to $92,400 per year. Once in the role, successful candidates will have the opportunity to progress through the full salary range based on performance. This range reflects the base salary only and does not include additional components of our total compensation package, such as our incentive award program and other rewards like health benefits, employee profit-sharing, retirement savings, and more. Key Job Elements:

  • Conduct the analysis, design, and development of training material for all maintenance training, associated with GDLS-C product lines.
  • Conduct training as maintenance instructor on GDLS-C chassis and turret products to customers in various military locations in Canada and globally.
  • Ensure proper documentation and updates are completed for site reports and Training Packages.
  • Liaise and communicate with internal and external organizations on training related matters.
  • When required, take on role of lead trainer, provide team leadership, instruct, monitor and advise trainers on site.
  • Implement advanced training technology and methods into courseware development.
  • Attend meetings with internal and external Customers as required.
  • Interact directly with customer and act as Point of Contact for GDLS Customer Support Services (CSS) operations while deployed.
  • Interact with GDLS Program Managers/Directors as GDLS CSS lead while deployed.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to internal and external customers on a variety of training related subjects.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Licensed truck & coachOR automotive inter-provincial certification OR Military equivalent
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation
  • Experience working with teams and/or customers
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Ability to work shift and/or altered workweeks if necessary
  • Possess/be able to acquire and maintain a valid passport with ability to travel up to 50%
  • Willing to travel throughout the world and work in extreme environmental conditions
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Canadian Firearms Restricted Possession and Acquisition License (PAL)
  • Capable of meeting physical demands of the job and Anthropometric Size Requirements for confined space
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to qualify for DZ or AZ license depending on platform support
  • Possess/be able to acquire and maintain Level II Security clearance
  • Strong communication, organization, and prioritization skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications (particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and working within database environments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Civilian: 310S/T, 421A, or 425A; Military: Vehicle Tech minimum QL3/DP2 or equivalent
  • Experienced in the maintenance of various military platforms
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years’ instructional experience (formal instructor or informal mentor)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of armored vehicles for Land Combat Arms
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Military School or Unit as an Instructor or Standards Cell member
  • Qualification as a CAF military instructor, TRADOC, or equivalent with experience as an Instructor in a Canadian Forces school/unit (or equivalent)
  • University degree or College diploma or Equivalent Military Certificationin adult education, instructional design, or learning and development
  • Bilingualism/multilingualism is an asset
  • Encouraged to apply with experience in vehicle technician, weapons technician, electronic-optronic technician, aircraft technician trades, ACISS technician


Physical Conditions and Hazards:

The conditions in which an individual or staff works, including but not limited to such things as amenities, physical environment, stress and noise levels, degree of safety or danger, temperature, location.

  3. Physical Environment: manufacturing/shop floor, some office
  4. Hazards: Heavy machinery including but not limited to fork trucks and cranes, noise, dust, paint, temperature fluctuations, hand tools
     

Physical Demands Description:

Typical postures may include standing, sitting, squatting, kneeling, crouching, bending, lying down and reaching at working heights ranging from below floor level to overhead. Tasks required on the interior of the vehicle will require working in a vertical space of 105 to 135 cm and may involve sitting, crawling, crouching, stooping, bending, twisting, kneeling and/or lying down to access some areas, as some tasks require working in areas with space constraints. The worker may also be required to lay on a creeper to complete work under the vehicle. Vertical clearance under the vehicle is approximately 65 cm.

Trainers are required to climb on/off vehicles, which may include climbing through roof hatches, rear openings, and/or the driver’s hatch. It is common for Trainers to complete tasks in the same area of the vehicle while maintaining static or similar postures for a period of time.

Medical Surveillance may include:

 

Inoculations, Respiratory Fit, Audiometric Testing, Designated Substance Surveillance, Vision, Anthropometrical Size Restrictions depending on task.

Personal Protective Equipment:


Applicable when interacting with shop floor (safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, extraction coveralls).
