Position Overview:
- The Maintenance Engineering (ME) Labs team is seeking technicians to support a lab decommissioning effort at two Telecommunication Richardson, TX lab facilities.
- This project involves uninstalling legacy equipment, removing racks and cabinets, and performing extensive cable cleanup beneath raised lab floors.
- This is a hands-on role in an active lab environment where care must be taken to avoid disturbing live systems while removing abandoned infrastructure.
- Work Environment:
- Active Maintenance Engineering Lab setting.
- Mix of live and abandoned cabling infrastructure.
- Work performed both above-floor and under raised floor plenum areas.
Responsibilities:
- Equipment & Rack Removal:
- Uninstall lab equipment from test bays and staging areas.
- Unbolt and dismantle 2-post and 4-post racks.
- Assist with removing cabinets and preparing equipment for internal disposal workflows.
- Cable Mining & Subfloor Cleanup:
- Identify and remove unused / abandoned cabling from the raised floor (plenum) space.
- Trace disconnected cable runs as far as practical and remove safely.
- Work row-by-row through the lab environment to systematically clean sections.
- Separate inactive cabling from live cabling without disrupting active systems.
- Asset Handling & Documentation Support:
- Place decommissioned equipment onto pallets for Telecommunication's internal asset disposal process.
- Assist with basic tracking of serial numbers where required (minimal scanning / accounting).
- General Site Support:
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace throughout the decommissioning process.
- Follow all safety and lab access protocols.
Required Qualifications:
- Prior experience in IT hardware removal, cabling, or rack installation / decommissioning:
- Uninstalling equipment from bays.
- Unbolting 2-post and 4-post racks.
- Mining unused cables from the subfloor (plenum) space.
- Comfortable working in environments with raised flooring and dense cabling.
- Ability to use basic hand tools (wrenches, socket sets, drills, etc.).
- Strong attention to detail and caution around live systems and active cables.
- Ability to perform physical work including lifting, bending, and working under floors.
- Reliable to work during the project.
Preferred Experience:
- Data center or lab infrastructure teardown projects.
- Cable tracing and structured cabling exposure.
- Familiarity with rack-and-stack environments.
- Asset tagging or light inventory support.
Pay Rate: $30 - $32 / Hour
