We are seeking a detail-oriented Lab Assistant to perform routine laboratory functions in a precise and accurate manner. This role supports laboratory professional staff and helps facilitate daily production activities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Sort and receive specimens in the department
- Perform routine instrument maintenance on select equipment
- Centrifuge specimens and print additional labels as needed
- Record data such as temperature charts
- Manage specimen storage and retrieval
- Prepare reagents and media
- Prepare specimens at workstations for testing, including:
- Building worklists
- Aliquoting specimens into sample cups
- Checking specimens for clots and fibrin
- Inoculation and slide preparation
- Perform QA/QC duties as assigned
- Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples
- Decontaminate work areas
- Conduct weekly radioactive wipe tests
- Maintain department records and files
- Change gas cylinders
- Follow all PPE requirements and safety regulations
- Operate laboratory computer systems and PCs
- Dispose of biohazardous materials properly
- Complete required training and competency checklists
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to establish work priorities and manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Strong information retention skills
- Professional and respectful communication with coworkers and customers
- Medical assistant training
- Coursework in math and science
- Specimen processing and handling
- Laboratory equipment operation
- QA/QC procedures
- Medical assistant training
- Data documentation and temperature chart recording
- Laboratory information systems experience
- Knowledge of safety and PPE compliance
