Kitchen, Bath & Closet Designer Job Description (Retail Showroom)
Job Summary and Mission
The Kitchen, Bath & Closet Designer is responsible for designing, selling, and managing residential kitchen and bathroom remodeling projects within a retail showroom environment. This role combines design expertise, product knowledge, and sales skills to create functional and visually appealing spaces while achieving targeted sales and profitability goals.
The Kitchen & Bath & Closet Designer plays a key role in driving showroom traffic into closed sales, maintaining strong customer relationships, and ensuring exceptional customer experiences from consultation through installation. This position reports directly to the Sales Manager or Store Manager and is non-exempt from The Fair Labor Standards overtime requirements.
Selling & Design Responsibilities
· Greet and engage retail showroom customers in a professional and welcoming manner.
· Conduct in-depth consultations to determine customer needs, style preferences, functionality requirements, and budget.
· Create detailed kitchen, bath & closet designs using design software and showroom samples.
· Present design concepts, materials, and pricing options to customers.
· Maintain professional knowledge of cabinetry, countertops, tile, flooring, plumbing fixtures, hardware, and related products.
· Use the company’s established sales process to guide customers from initial consultation to closing the sale.
· Prepare accurate quotes and sales orders while maintaining desired gross profit margins.
· Process customer deposits and payments according to company procedures.
· Participate in training sessions and vendor product knowledge events.
· Assist with showroom merchandising and promotional events.
Project Coordination & Administration
· Coordinate and schedule field measurements to ensure design accuracy.
· Confirm product selections, specifications, and order details before submission.
· Communicate lead times and installation timelines clearly to customers.
· Work with installers, contractors, and vendors to ensure smooth project execution.
· Manage change orders and maintain accurate project documentation.
· Follow up with customers throughout the project lifecycle to ensure satisfaction.
Customer Service
· Provide an exceptional retail showroom experience that exceeds expectations.
· Build lasting relationships to generate repeat business and referrals.
· Address and resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
· Maintain showroom cleanliness and organization.
· Meet all company core standards and performance expectations.
Requirements
Education and Experience
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Associate’s degree in Interior Design or related field preferred.
· 1–3 years of retail sales and/or kitchen and bath design experience preferred.
Skills
· Ability to calculate measurements, pricing, margins, and commissions accurately.
· Proficiency in kitchen, bath and closet design software (20/20, ProKitchen, Chief Architect, or similar).
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and POS/CRM systems.
· Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
Compensation
- Hourly rate of $20/hr. plus commission
