Position summary:
The JK teacher designs and delivers a high-quality, developmentally appropriate academic program for children ages 4-5. The role supports kindergarten readiness through intentional instruction in early literacy, phonological awareness, mathematics, science exploration, social studies, and social-emotional development. The teacher creates a nurturing, structured classroom environment that supports independence, curiosity, and a love of learning while fostering strong partnerships with families.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The JK teacher designs and delivers a high-quality, developmentally appropriate academic program for children ages 4-5. The role supports kindergarten readiness through intentional instruction in early literacy, phonological awareness, mathematics, science exploration, social studies, and social-emotional development. The teacher creates a nurturing, structured classroom environment that supports independence, curiosity, and a love of learning while fostering strong partnerships with families.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement a comprehensive Junior Kindergarten curriculum aligned with state early learning standards.
- Provide daily instruction in early literacy, phonological awareness, handwriting, fine motor skills, foundational math, science inquiry, and social studies.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
- Prepare students for a successful transition to kindergarten.
- Ensure classroom safety and compliance with licensing standards.
- Establish consistent routines and clear behavioral expectations.
- Promote positive, age-appropriate guidance strategies.
- Conduct ongoing assessments.
- Prepare progress reports and participate in parent conferences.
- Build and sustain strong, respectful partnerships with families.
- Communicate regularly regarding student progress, classroom activities, and upcoming events.
- Collaborate with administration and fellow teachers.
- Maintain required certifications and continuing education hours.
- Uphold the center's mission, values, and professional standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education (required).
- Teaching license in Elementary Education (preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in preschool or pre-kindergarten setting.
- Strong knowledge of early literacy development and kindergarten readiness standards.
- CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to pass background checks as required by state regulations.
Skills and Competencies:
