Job Location: Raleigh, NC (Hybrid, 4 days onsite & 1 day remote, this position will require extensive travel - 50% or greater)
Duration: 07 months+ (Possible Extension)
Responsibilities:
Travel to remote sites for survey, installation, upgrade, and switch acceptance of network equipment.
Serve as Tier 3 escalation point for complex LAN and Wireless issues escalated from Tier 2 engineers.
Configure, support, and troubleshoot wireless systems and LAN infrastructure.
Design and implement network architecture from middle-of-row to core connectivity (Layer 2 & Layer 3 – IOS).
Design, configure, and support routing protocols including OSPF, EIGRP, RIP, and Static routing.
Design, implement, and manage LAN/Wireless infrastructure projects for large, complex facilities.
Perform network performance monitoring, optimization, and vulnerability mitigation for switches.
Provide firewall and load balancing support.
Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for outages during authorized maintenance windows.
Review site designs for pathways and infrastructure, including multi-floor fiber and copper backbone installations.
Conduct wireless site surveys and planning using Ekahau Sidekick or similar tools.
Plan and schedule network upgrades (including off-hours/weekend work) and issue notifications.
Develop and maintain network documentation, diagrams, and regular project status reports.
Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams for integrated system solutions.
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to Tier 2 LAN Engineers.
Perform all functional duties independently in a fast-paced environment.
Must Have Skills:
Bachelor’s Degree with 8+ years of IT experience (or equivalent additional experience in lieu of degree).
Minimum 5+ years of hands-on network engineering and support experience.
Strong expertise in LAN protocols, technologies, and network architecture design.
Proven experience in LAN design, implementation, and management in large/complex environments.
Advanced troubleshooting and analytical skills for diagnosing complex network issues.
Experience with routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, RIP, Static routing).
Strong Layer 2 and Layer 3 configuration and support (Cisco IOS).
Experience installing, configuring, operating, and supporting Cisco and multi-vendor network equipment.
Experience performing switch acceptance and site reviews (circuit capacity, switch types, IOS).
Experience reading and interpreting syslogs, packet captures/sniffer logs, security logs, and OS/application network logs.
Experience configuring networking parameters across network devices and operating systems.
Experience with Ekahau or other Wi-Fi site survey and planning tools.
Knowledge of wireless technologies and enterprise WLAN deployments.
Experience with firewall and load balancing support.
Strong documentation skills (network diagrams, reporting, RCA documentation).
Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage projects in fast-paced environments.
Willingness and ability to travel to remote sites.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with Cisco Meraki, HPE Aruba, Juniper Mist, and Fortinet wireless solutions.
Experience with Ekahau Sidekick for advanced wireless site survey and planning.
Experience reviewing physical infrastructure designs (fiber pathways, multi-floor penetrations, backbone infrastructure).
Experience performing vulnerability mitigation on switching platforms.
Experience working in environments requiring scheduled maintenance windows and formal change management processes.
Prior experience mentoring junior engineers or serving in a technical lead capacity.
Experience developing infrastructure recommendations based on performance measurements and design documentation.
Experience working in large enterprise or multi-site environments.
