This individual will serve as the primary technical resource—managing systems, supporting staff, maintaining security and compliance, and ensuring reliable, efficient, and secure technology performance across the office.

This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys broad responsibility, autonomy, and the opportunity to directly influence the stability and security of a professional services environment.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Support & End-User Assistance

  • Provide day-to-day technical support to attorneys and staff (Windows, macOS, mobile devices).
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, network, and connectivity issues.
  • Maintain user accounts, permissions, and access controls across systems.
  • Offer training and onboarding support for new hires on firm systems and applications.

Systems Administration

  • Manage and maintain servers, workstations, printers, and network infrastructure.
  • Oversee Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Azure AD, and SharePoint environments.
  • Monitor system performance and implement updates, patches, and upgrades.
  • Administer and support specific applications such as:
    • Document management systems (NetDocuments, iManage, SharePoint)
    • Coordinate with vendors for software troubleshooting and updates.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Maintain and enhance cybersecurity posture, including:
    • Endpoint protection and EDR tools
    • Firewalls and secure remote-access solutions
    • Email security and anti-phishing tools
  • Ensure compliance with privacy and legal industry standards (e.g., ABA cybersecurity guidelines, HIPAA when applicable).
  • Conduct periodic risk assessments, backups, disaster recovery, and incident response planning.

Infrastructure & Network Management

  • Manage routers, switches, Wi-Fi, and LAN/WAN configurations.
  • Oversee cloud and local servers, virtual machines, and storage solutions.
  • Monitor uptime, availability, and network health.

Documentation & Process Improvement

  • Maintain accurate documentation of systems, procedures, and configurations.
  • Establish IT best practices, security protocols, and firm technology policies.
  • Continually improve processes to enhance efficiency and user experience.

Qualifications

Required

  • 8+ years of hands-on IT experience, ideally in a small professional services environment.
  • Broad expertise across systems administration, networking, security, and user support.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Azure AD, and modern security tools.
  • Ability to manage technology autonomously and support a wide range of needs.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+/Network+/Security+, Microsoft certifications, or equivalent.
  • Experience with VoIP systems, cloud migrations, and backup/DR platforms.

Key Competencies

  • Strong sense of ownership and follow-through
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into plain language
  • High attention to detail and documentation
  • Strategic thinking with hands-on execution
  • Discretion, professionalism, and alignment with confidentiality.
