The primary functions of this position are to assist in the maintenance, improvement, repair, and operation of all the parks and facilities owned or managed by the Fargo Park District. The position will be assigned a variety of tasks supporting all divisions, areas, and facilities within the Fargo Park District. Primary emphasis will be placed upon duties associated with plumbing and repair/maintenance/operation of irrigation systems.
Essential Functions
- Operation of power equipment and hand tools to install, maintain and repair irrigation systems and related components including but not limited to irrigation lines, sprinkler heads, control panels, valves and pumps.
- Perform spring start up and fall winterization of all Park District irrigation systems.
- Maintain inventory of related irrigation parts and supplies.
- Properly document all major irrigation work per departmental guidelines.
- Construction and maintenance of city parks, open spaces, facilities and recreational areas.
- Operate and maintain all equipment related to park maintenance in a safe and efficient manner.
- Properly apply herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, fertilizers and other chemicals related to park maintenance as directed by the Supervisors.
- Complete lists of daily work assignments; make field decisions regarding job procedures, work standards and equipment use. Train part-time seasonal staff on monitoring, maintenance and servicing of equipment to ensure operational standards.
- Winter duties shall include snow removal on trails, parking lots and outdoor ice rinks. Construction and maintenance of outdoor ice rinks. Facility and ice maintenance of indoor ice facilities
- Perform other duties as presented by the Supervisors.
Other Functions
- Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
- The capability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds alone or heavier lifting with other employees.
- Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.

- Respond to comments from the public and provide information regarding park cleanliness and related park maintenance item

Required Experience:
Education/Experience
The position requires an Associate’s Degree in a field directly related to the job description, or a high school diploma (or equivalent) with a minimum of three years’ work experience related to the job description.
Credentials/Licenses/Certifications
A valid driver’s license is required for the class of vehicle to be driven
Preferred qualifications and licenses/certifications include additional education or experience directly related to the job description such as construction, carpentry, plumbing, welding, turf care, tree care, and irrigation. Preferred qualifications also include pesticide applicator’s certification in the turf and ornamentals category, Journeyman or Master’s plumbing license, a minimum of three years’ experience as an apprentice plumber or irrigation system installer/operator/repair person, and/or a commercial driver’s license.
