The Investment Analyst role is a three-year program designed to give early-career professionals broad, hands-on exposure to endowment management across public and private markets. Analysts who complete the program leave well-positioned for graduate business school, careers in asset management, or roles at buy-side investment firms including hedge funds and private equity.
The Office of Investments (OOI) manages TNC's $4+ billion endowment and other long-term capital pools, with a mission to protect and grow the organization's purchasing power in support of global conservation. Led by our Chief Investment Officer, the OOI is a collegial, 15-person team that operates with the rigor and intellectual culture of a top institutional investment office - with the added weight of knowing our work directly funds one of the world's most impactful conservation organizations.
The Investment Analyst will work alongside senior investment professionals on the full lifecycle of manager research - from sourcing and due diligence to ongoing monitoring - across a multi-billion-dollar portfolio of external managers spanning public and private markets. The role also carries important operational responsibilities, providing a complete view of how a world-class endowment functions. The Analyst reports directly to a Director of Investments and is required to work a hybrid schedule in the Worldwide Office located in Arlington, VA 3 days a week (Tuesday-Thursday). This role is not eligible for sponsorship or relocation costs.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
- Source new managers by performing database screens, reviewing materials from prospective managers, and engaging with market intermediaries.
- Conduct investment due diligence by participating in calls and meetings and performing qualitative and quantitative research on managers.
- Assist in preparing investment recommendations for presentation to the Investment Committee.
- Review managers' investment reports and letters; proactively monitor markets for potential portfolio or manager implications.
- Maintain and reconcile investment data across internal systems and external manager reports, including portfolio holdings, cash flows, performance attribution, and exposure metrics; support preparation of portfolio analytics and performance reports.
- Identify and implement TNC approved AI-enabled tools to enhance workflow efficiency and analytical capabilities across investment and operations functions. Support foundational operational processes related to new and additional investments, data and document collection, and reporting.
- Provide project management support and prepare OOI communications for internal and external stakeholders.
- Evaluate alignment of portfolio holdings with TNC's organizational mission, including analysis of mission-aligned investments.
- Attend relevant annual meetings and industry conferences; travel as needed.
- Ensures programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
- Reinforces consistency in the organization's policies and procedures and provides support related to relevant field.

- More than 6 months and less than 3 years' professional experience, in investment banking, institutional investing, asset management, or analytical finance.
- Genuine intellectual curiosity and passion for investing and financial markets.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work product.
- Experience manipulating, analyzing, and interpreting large datasets.
- Progress toward the CFA designation is a plus, but not required.
- Multi-cultural experience appreciated.
