Our Centralized Investigations & Audits Unit (CIAU) within our Business and Professions Division (BPD) are currently recruiting an Investigations Supervisors experienced in leading teams through change while diving into investigations and growing a distanced team.

Our Business & Professions Division (BPD) oversees licensing and regulatory activities for 34 professions and 143 license types (businesses and individuals) and administers the Prorate and Fuel Tax program, as well as providing oversight of Combative Sports events, managing Uniform Commercial Code filings and Performing Rights Society registrations, Agriculture Support Program, and maintaining the Firearms database for law enforcement.

As an Investigations Supervisor, you will direct and oversee the day-to-day work of a team of investigators to ensure unit goals and expectations are met. You will lead a group that supports compliance within either the Real Estate Unit which includes Real Estate Brokers, Appraisers, Home Inspectors, Notary Publics, Camp Resorts, Timeshares, Employment Agencies, Telephone Solicitors, and Whitewater River Outfitters. You will review investigations while ensuring due process and investigative processes are followed and equitable. As the supervisor of this diverse and multilayered team within DOL, you will develop expectations, collaborate to identify the best practices, offer education and technical assistance to customers and the public, and work to ensure proper standards are met. It will be leadership and coaching that drives your success in this role rather than day to day investigative skills.

Some of what you will do:

  • Supervise a team of investigators including work assignment and mentorship.
  • Conduct expert level investigations including unlicensed activity and sensitive areas of investigation.
  • Develop training materials and plans, performance assessments, and guidelines to ensure consistent team performance.
  • Use and teach the full range of investigative duties and disciplines.
  • Assist in the review, revision, and implementation of state laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to professional licensing.
  • Present investigative results, enforcement actions, and findings to leadership regularly.
  • Testify in administrative hearings and deliver oral or written reports as requested.
 

What you will bring to the position:

  • Six (6) years of experience as an investigator with a criminal justice government agency or private organization, or other directly related field including four (4) years of field investigation experience.

OR

  • Six (6) years of full time experience in investigations involving personal background, unfair or deceptive business practices, insurance casualty claims, or similar allied topics.

OR

  • Four (4) years of experience as an Investigator 3 with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.

Two (2) years of relevant education may substitute for one (1) year for experience.


 Experience must include:

  • Five (5) years of experience in the following:
    • Interpreting and applying rules and laws, administrative statutes, or federal regulations in the course of investigatory duties or enforcement.
    • Gathering, preserving, and presenting evidence in reports to support enforcement actions, including disciplinary measures, denials, or actions to prevent unauthorized or non-compliant activity.
    • Operating multiple web and computer based software programs or case management systems to input, access, retrieve, and review information pertinent to investigative processes.
  • Four (4) years of using computer programs to write documents, send emails, and edit spreadsheets.
  • Two (2) years of supervising, coaching, or leading diverse groups and staff while using human resource principles and implementing plans, expectations, processes and manuals.
  • The ability to:

What may help set you apart: 

  • One (1) year of experience investigating professions licensed and regulated by a Real Estate Unit which includes Real Estate Brokers and Managing Brokers, Appraisers, Appraisal Management Companies, Home Inspectors, Notary Publics, Camp Resorts, Timeshares, Employment Agencies, Telephone Solicitors, and Whitewater River Outfitters.
  • Experience reviewing, analyzing, drafting, and presenting legislative or rule making proposals.
  • Experience planning and facilitating meetings in large and small groups.

Additional Requirements of Employment:

  • While this position is hybrid, you will be expected in office every Wednesday and Thursday at our Olympia, WA Office location.
