Overview
The Synaptics Advanced Packaging Internship is an opportunity to learn and develop hands-on skills in IC package design, simulation, and advanced integration technologies by working closely with experienced package and simulation engineers. The intern will contribute to real product-oriented investigations, including simulation automation, chiplet-based package concepts, and interface-driven package architecture studies supporting next-generation Synaptics devices.
Responsibilities & Competencies
Job Duties
- Work with senior package and simulation engineers to support automation of SI/PI, FEM, thermal, and mechanical simulations, improving analysis efficiency and repeatability
- Develop scripts or workflows to streamline simulation setup, execution, and post-processing (e.g., parametric sweeps, report generation, result comparison)
- Explore chiplet-based packaging concepts using Synaptics die, including partitioning strategies and multi-die integration considerations
- Identify critical electrical, mechanical, and thermal interfaces required for chiplet implementations
- Assist in defining bump arrangements, pitch tradeoffs, and layout concepts to enable chiplet interconnects on minimum substrate layer counts
- Help pre-define a library of generic bump patterns and sample escape routing for common interfaces such as USB3, SDIO, SPI, PCIe, and similar high-speed or control interfaces
- Document findings, trade studies, and recommended concepts clearly for use by the broader package design and NPI teams
- This is a great opportunity for anyone planning to begin a career in the advanced IC packaging, electronic packaging simulation, or heterogeneous integration industry or field!
Competencies
- Ability to balance analytical rigor with practical engineering judgment
- Well organized with strong attention to detail; proactively ensures work is accurate
- Self-motivated and aptitude to learn quickly
- Positive attitude and work ethic; unafraid to ask questions and explore new ideas
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong sense of professionalism
Qualifications (Requirements)
- Candidates should be seeking a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field
- Coursework or working knowledge of IC packaging, signal integrity, power integrity, FEM, or thermal/mechanical simulation
- Experience or exposure to simulation tools such as HFSS, SIwave, Ansys Mechanical, Icepak, or equivalent (hands-on experience preferred but not required)
- Programming or scripting experience (e.g., Python, MATLAB, TCL, or similar) is a strong plus
- Able to work independently at times and dedicate a minimum of 20 hours/week
- Must be legally authorized to work in Taiwan without restriction
- Must be willing to submit to a background investigation, including verification of your employment and criminal history
- Must be 18 years of age or older
