Zero West House, Inc.
Interior Designer
Location: Newport Beach, CA (on-site; projects in Orange County)
Create interiors that feel effortless, and execute them like a pro.
Zero West House, Inc. is an elevated residential design-build company in coastal Orange County. We're hiring an in-house Interior Design Lead who is a creative authority and thought leader who understands project execution. You can build a cohesive concept, communicate it clearly, produce accurate documentation, and help deliver a final product that matches the vision. If you're equal parts creative and operational, someone who can design, document, and drive execution with high standards, this role is for you.
You'll lead interior design for custom residential projects, from concept through installation, with a highly personalised and unique approach to each client and their design needs. Expect our product to be different, creating industry-defining standards. Our brand must be remembered for bringing fresh and enthralling ideas to every client experience.
You'll create themes and mood boards, source and present selections, build finish schedules, and produce clear drawings that support construction execution (millwork, lighting, cabinetry layouts, interior elevations, etc.) You'll collaborate closely with the build team to ensure design intent is protected and procurement timelines stay aligned.
Responsibilities
Design + Client-Facing Selections
- Develop interior concepts, mood boards, and design direction for each project
- Collaborate with the owner to develop theme and brand, consistent across all projects
- Source and present finishes, fixtures, and materials (tile, stone, plumbing, hardware, lighting, paint, flooring, etc.)
- Participate in client meetings as needed to present options, guide decisions, and keep scope aligned
Documentation + Execution Support
- Create and maintain detailed finish schedules and selection documentation
- Produce interior elevations and drawings (millwork, cabinetry, lighting plans, key dimensions) suitable for construction execution
- Coordinate with vendors and trades to ensure selections, specs, lead times, and installation requirements are clear
Cross-Team Coordination
- Work closely with project management and procurement coordination so materials are ordered correctly and on time
- Review submittals, shop drawings, and samples to confirm alignment with design intent
- Support punch lists and closeout to ensure the finished home matches the approved design
Qualifications
- 3-5 or more years of interior design experience with custom and/or luxury residential projects
- Strong ability to produce construction-grade documentation (not just concepts)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD preferred (ability to produce accurate interior elevations and measured drawings is important)
- Strong vendor knowledge and sourcing ability in the high-end residential space
- Organized, deadline-driven, and comfortable managing multiple projects
- Confident communicator with client-facing polish and professional follow-through
- Experience in design-build environments where design and construction move in parallel
- Experience with long-lead procurement planning and finish selection timelines
- Familiarity with local showroom/vendor networks in OC/LA
Portfolio required: Please include a link/PDF showcasing luxury/custom residential work (before/after, mood boards, schedules, elevations/drawings if available).
Pay, Schedule, and Work Conditions
- Job Type: Full-time
- Pay Range: $95,000 to $105,000 per year (pay within this range is based on experience, skills, and job-related qualifications)
- Benefits such as health coverage, paid time off, and professional development support may be offered, depending on role and eligibility.
