DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Full-time, year-round position responsible for:
- Overseeing fruit, vegetables, heirloom beans, beekeeping, and poultry production on 5+ acres and coordinating farmers' market operations.
- Following organic practices, developing and implementing crop plans, greenhouse schedules, soil fertility plans, including composting, and planting and harvesting schedules for each growing season.
- Planning production based on community needs, including tribal programs, the tribal school, tribal enterprises, retail sales, and farmers' markets.
- Maintaining farm grounds and equipment, including machinery, cropping, pest management systems, and irrigation systems.
- Performing daily poultry feedings, including weekends, unless delegated to the assistant farm manager and/or REG staff member.
- Providing supervision and mentorship to REG staff, PTEC participants, and youth interns while coordinating with the Workforce Education Coordinator and Project Manager to develop schedules and daily on-the-job training activities.
- Conducting performance evaluations for REG staff, providing feedback, guidance, and support to promote growth and accountability.
- Supporting and collaborating with the Food Sovereignty Program and community initiatives to advance local food systems and programming.
- Contributing to the annual budget planning process with the Director.
- Ensure adherence to organizational policies and procedures while developing, implementing, and maintaining departmental policies and procedures.
- Managing financial records, inventory control, and timely monthly and grant reporting.
- Developing and maintaining the department's social media presence across Facebook, the website, and other platforms, ensuring compliance with organizational media policies.
- Attending training, conferences, and workshops as directed or approved by the Director.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Science, Agribusiness, or Horticulture, or a certificate/completion of training in Horticulture, Sustainable Agriculture, or a related field, including on-farm internships.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in vegetable farm production, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory role with experience developing, facilitating, and coordinating training programs.
- Working knowledge of greenhouse and field production, organic practices, and poultry management; proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and public speaking skills, with the ability to provide guidance on food and farming topics, administrative planning, and community events; demonstrates adaptability, reliability, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to manage people, time, resources, and equipment; prioritize tasks effectively; maintain consistent attendance; work outdoors for extended periods; lift to 50 lbs.; and hold a valid driver's license meeting Tribe insurance requirements.
- Must pass a background check per Public Law 101-630, 101-647, and the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act; preference for knowledge of traditional Meskwaki ways of life and willingness to learn.
