Job Title: Instructional Designer

FLSA Status: Full-time, Contractor (This is a contract position to start, with the potential to convert to a full-time role.)

Reports To: Director, Training Programs

Location: USA, Remote (work from home)


Summary:

This is an exciting opportunity to join a global standards organization and have a positive impact on the training of thousands of professionals across the world. The Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) trains and certifies experienced IT security professionals to work with organizations striving to meet technical security standards. The Instructional Designer is responsible for creating engaging, effective learning experiences that will help the payment card industry understand the controls needed to protect customers' cardholder data.

This role blends learning science, design thinking, and practical execution. You'll work collaboratively with team members and subject matter experts to translate highly technical information into clear, impactful, learning programs.

What you will be doing in this role:

  • Design, develop, and publish high-quality learning experiences, including eLearning, blended learning, instructor-led classes, and supporting materials
  • Manage multiple projects from start to finish, including stakeholder collaboration and deliverables to meet deadlines
  • Partner with subject matter experts to analyze needs and translate content into high-impact learning solutions
  • Apply adult learning principles, accessibility standards, and learning science best practices
  • Use data and feedback to iterate and continuously improve learning experiences
  • Manage all curriculum content governance, including the review/update lifecycle
  • Support the courseware translation process as required for region-specific needs

What you bring to this role:

  • 3-7+ years of experience in instructional design, learning experience design, or a related field
  • Strong grounding in adult learning theory and instructional design methodologies (ADDIE, SAM, or similar)
  • Strong project management and stakeholder collaboration skills
  • Experience designing professional, technical, or certification-based education
  • Experience with assessment design and learning evaluation
  • Excellent written communication, graphic design, audio and video editing, and the ability to simplify complex concepts
  • Experience using course authoring software, specifically Articulate 360 Storyline and Rise
  • Willingness to travel 5% or more

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience with implementing, assessing, or training to any of the PCI standards
  • Understanding of the financial industry and the lifecycle of payment card transactions, audit methodologies and security assessment tools, coupled with working experience with software development methodologies and practices
  • Understanding information security best practices and applying that knowledge to PCI requirements
  • A portfolio of work samples demonstrating instructional design thinking and execution

Pay Transparency Details:

For the contract period, compensation is expected to range from $40 to $60 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. If converted to a full-time role, the expected annual salary range is $80,000 to $100,000, plus benefits.
