Instruction and Classroom Support 1: Art Studio Lab Technician


SALARY:$1,357.2 - $1,423.2/month ($19.5 - $21.90/hr) for a 16 hour per week schedule


LOCATION:Lynnwood, Washington

Position Description:

The Art Department Assistant will serve as a monitor for open lab times, ensuring the safety and accessibility to studio facilities to all enrolled art students. This position serves to maintain the studio facilities and supplies. This includes thorough and regular cleaning of all art studios (Drawing, Painting, Design and Sculpture); organization of room furniture and art supplies; and monitoring of proper student use. In addition to lab monitor duties, the position will assist all Full and Part-time Faculty members as well as the Program Coordinator for Art and Music with projects supporting the department, classroom facilities or preparations for class curricula.


This is a Classified position that reports to the Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Studio facility maintenance - ensure the cleanliness of the drawing, painting, design, and sculpture studies through regular cleaning routines.
  • Lab monitoring and student support - serve as a monitor during open lab times to ensure all students have safe and equitable access to studio facilities.
  • Faculty, Staff, and Program support - assist faculty members in preparing for class by setting up studio spaces, arranging materials, and providing technical support as needed. Collaborates with the Art Department Head, Art faculty, and Program Coordinator for Art and Music on departmental projects and initiatives, including event planning, exhibition setup, and other administrative tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Knowledge of art studio practices, procedures, and equipment 
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to speak in public and with students, community members, faculty and colleagues.
  • Strong organization skills, with the ability to organize, inventory, maintain, and repair lab equipment.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Associate degree in Art or similar field 
  • Two or more years of art studio support or management 
  • Experience in following and overseeing safety procedures related to art studios, including safe handling of chemicals.
  • Experience in working with students and community members from diverse cultures.
  • Ability to use Microsoft, Google and Adobe suites of software for word processing, data and photo management.

 

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is typically performed in an office setting and onsite/in-person. The ability to sit at a desk/computer station, bend, stoop, walk, and generally move around the office to consult with others, work within a busy environment, and remain focused on tasks. Inventory management requires some lifting and moving of objects up to 50lbs. Excellent communication skills are essential. This includes the ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English and will include communication with people for whom English is not their first language. This also includes the ability to produce clearly written documents. Those who are multilingual are strongly encouraged to apply.  

 

WORK SCHEDULE:

This is a permanent part-time classified position for a 16-hour-per-week schedule.  Fall through Summer quarter ( 41 weeks cyclical). The schedule will be based around quarterly Art class offerings. For example, Monday & Wednesday, 9:00 A.M  to 1:00 p.m.; Tuesday & Thursday, 12:00 to 4:00 PM.

 

COMPENSATION:  

Salary is Range 39, $1,357.2 - $1,423.2/month for a 16 hour per week schedule, with progressive increases to $1,806.8. This position is not eligible for benefits. Paid PTO/Sick leave on an accrual basis.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
