Inpatient Coding Specialist III – Remote

Position Overview

A large healthcare services organization is seeking an experienced Inpatient Coding Specialist III to support inpatient hospital coding and DRG validation across multiple acute care facilities. This fully remote role supports critical revenue cycle and compliance operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Assign, sequence, validate, and edit ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes

• Perform Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) validation and Present on Admission (POA) assignment

• Abstract and validate key clinical and administrative data elements (e.g., physician documentation, discharge disposition, query tracking)

• Maintain or exceed established performance metrics:

  • Productivity standard: 1.8 inpatient charts per hour

  • Coding accuracy standards

• Review coding quality edits and resolve coding-related issues or inquiries

• Participate in coding audits as assigned

Required Qualifications

• 3–5 years of acute care hospital inpatient coding experience

• Must include hospital-based DRG coding experience

• Experience limited to LTAC, insurance, physician billing, or non-acute settings will not be accepted

• Strong proficiency in:

  • ICD-10-CM

  • ICD-10-PCS

  • DRG assignment

  • POA indicators

• Highly disciplined, metrics-driven work approach

Required Credentials

One of the following certifications required:

• RHIT

• RHIA

• CCS

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management (HIM) or Health Information Technology (HIT) preferred

Compensation

• Hourly Rate: $24.61 – $34.00 per hour (based on experience)
