Industrial Coatings Surface Preparation Specialist

Compensation: Starting at $18.00 per hour

Location: Amarillo, TX (Express Office: 6605 I-40 West, Amarillo, TX 79106)

A day in your boots

When your shift begins, you review the day's production schedule and walk the line, checking surfaces for dust, dents, and inconsistencies. You select the right tools—solvents, sanding blocks, blasting media, or a power washer—to strip contaminants and create the ideal profile for coatings. With steady hands, you mask and tape for crisp edge lines, apply seam sealer where needed, and set up prep and paint equipment so everything runs smoothly. You mix materials to spec, keep the booth spotless, and stage parts for drying and next steps. Throughout the day, you inspect finished work to ensure the look and durability meet our standards—and when something isn't just right, you correct it. Safety is your constant: PPE on, chemicals handled per procedure, work area orderly.

What you'll handle

• Examine parts and panels for imperfections, contaminants, or irregularities
• Clean and prep using solvents, sanding tools, sandblasting, and power washing
• Mask/tape to guard no-spray zones and protect adjacent surfaces
• Mix coating materials to specifications; set up and maintain prep and paint equipment
• Inspect finished items to verify quality, appearance, and adhesion standards
• Correct surface defects as needed; perform routine equipment maintenance
• Track and replenish sanding, washing, and painting consumables
• Move products to drying areas; stage for downstream processing or packaging
• Operate forklifts, cranes, and related heavy equipment (certification required)
• Apply seam sealers as required
• Keep the booth and surrounding prep area clean and organized
• Follow all safety protocols with paints, solvents, and chemicals; wear required PPE
• Support additional production tasks as assigned

What you bring

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Background in manufacturing, painting, or surface prep (preferred)
• Hands-on knowledge of sanding, blasting, masking, and coating prep methods
• Strong eye for detail and consistent quality
• Comfort working independently and collaborating as a team
• Solid understanding of industrial/paint shop safety procedures

Physical expectations

• Frequent use of hands and a variety of tools
• Regular standing, walking, and reaching throughout the shift
• Ability to safely operate a forklift and maintain required certifications
