Indirect Tax Specialist (Learneo, Inc., Menlo Park, CA): Navigating operational, reporting, and compliance issues related to sales tax, value-added tax (VAT), goods and services tax (GST), and other indirect taxes to ensure the company adheres to all relevant laws and regulations across impacted global jurisdictions; Collaborating with external tax service providers located around the world to facilitate the indirect tax filing process in various jurisdictions, ensuring timely and accurate submissions; Supporting and assisting in managing the VAT compliance process across multiple countries, ensuring all filings are accurate and submitted on time; Managing the end-to-end compliance process for sales and use taxes across multiple US states to ensure full regulatory adherence; Keeping abreast of updates to global indirect tax regulations, interpreting new laws, and assessing their impact on the company as well as communicating these changes to relevant business partners; Playing a key role in the finance team’s overall risk management strategy by identifying and mitigating risks associated with indirect tax compliance; Continuously managing the risk of noncompliance with global indirect tax regulations and the associated penalties, ensuring the company remains compliant; Tackling the complexities of international tax regulations and assisting the business in understanding the tax implications of cross-border transactions; Helping in preparing monthly, quarterly, and year-end entries related to indirect taxes, including indirect tax payable, indirect tax receivable, and indirect tax expenses; and Assisting in the year-end reconciliation process for financial reporting purposes, ensuring all indirect tax-related entries are accurate and complete. In order to complete the above-mentioned tasks, the following skills and experience are required: Experience with Nexus determination, taxability mapping, and compliance for products/services across U.S. states; Experience with global indirect tax regimes, especially for SaaS, digital services, and cross-border transactions; Experience with OECD guidance (e.g., DSTs, marketplace facilitator laws, e-invoicing); Experience with structuring business models to optimize indirect tax efficiency (e.g., drop shipments, global supply chains, bundling); Experience with Vertex, Avalara, OneSource, or ERP tax engines like Oracle/SAP; Experience with journal entry validation, reconciliations, return filings, and audit defense; Experience with subscription billing, content delivery platforms, usage-based pricing, and associated tax treatments; Experience influencing product development (e.g., billing logic, tax classification of SKUs); Experience with VAT implications of IP licensing, cost-sharing arrangements, and recharge mechanisms in multi-entity structures; Experience keeping up with changing thresholds (e.g., EU VAT One-Stop Shop), DAC7, and B2C/B2B tax requirements; Experience working with legal, finance, billing, procurement, and engineering teams to ensure tax compliance is embedded; Experience Leading VAT/SUT registration, implementation of tax software, or new market entry from an indirect tax angle; Experience managing inquiries and audits with U.S. states or foreign tax authorities, providing documentation and defense strategies; and Experience drafting tax memos, maintaining audit trails, and updating indirect tax policies. Requires Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Accounting, Finance, or a closely-related field, and at least five years of experience as an Indirect Tax Consultant, Accountant, or related occupation.
