Our client is a leading construction firm known for delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget. They are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced In-House Counsel to join their team.

Role and Responsibilities

As the In-House Counsel, you will be responsible for providing legal advice and support to the company on a wide range of legal matters. Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Work closely with the Company's operating units to understand the business and associated challenges, opportunities, and risks. 
  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure proper document control, project issues, and client relationships. 
  • Advising on construction law, contract negotiations, and compliance with legal regulations.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, including construction agreements, subcontracts, various teaming and JV agreements, purchase orders, and service agreements.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating property leases.
  • Drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and closing property purchase agreements and related agreements (easement agreements, escrow agreements, etc.). 
  • Managing and resolving disputes and claims.
  • Litigation management. 
  • Reviewing and updating RCI's employment practices, handbooks, literature, etc., and ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. 
  • Providing legal guidance on risk management and mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborating with external legal counsel as needed.
  • Maintaining proficiency in construction law, real estate law, and related industry standards as changes arise.
  • Conduct research and analysis as needed. 

Qualifications

  • A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar in Michigan.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a practicing attorney, with a focus on construction, surety, and real estate law.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, landlord-tenant relations, and related real estate law, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
