Job Summary
The Human Resources Specialist provides essential HR support to federal contracts and affiliated companies. This role assists in day-to-day HR operations, ensuring compliance with labor laws, federal policies, and organizational standards. The HR Specialist works closely with managers and senior HR staff to support employee relations, administration, and program compliance initiatives.
This position is ideal for candidates with foundational HR experience, an interest in government contracting environments, and a desire to grow their expertise in federal HR operations.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations
- Assist in addressing workplace concerns and supporting managers with employee issues
- Promote a positive workplace culture
- Support investigations as needed
Compliance & Policy Management
- Ensure adherence to labor laws and organizational policies
- Maintain employee records and HR documentation
- Assist with compliance training and audits
Compensation & Benefits
- Support administration of payroll, benefits, and leave programs
- Help conduct basic compensation research and benchmarking
Performance & Development
- Assist with performance review processes
- Support employee development and training initiatives
HR Administration & Systems
- Maintain HRIS and personnel records
- Process routine HR actions, including hires, promotions, and terminations
- Generate basic HR reports and analytics
Strategic Support
- Collaborate with senior HR staff to implement consistent policies across affiliated companies
- Support workforce planning and HR projects as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field
- SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent certification required
Experience
- 1-3 years of HR experience, ideally supporting federal contracts or regulated environments
- Familiarity with federal employment laws and compliance standards
Skills
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
- Basic knowledge of HRIS systems and HR processes
