Harbor is seeking a friendly, bright and capable addition to anchor our team supporting 800+ employees in a high- growth environment.  Our HR Generalist is the nerve center for onboarding, offboarding, leave requests for team members, and maintaining compliance with many different entities and responsibilities inclusive of direct handling of FMLA/LOA and workers’ comp claims, and compliance within HRIS record keeping systems. This position is the first point of contact for most of the company onsite or by other means, and an infallible level of discretion and confidentiality is mandatory.

The Harbor HR Generalist is a broad-based position requiring flexibility and adaptability to a wide variety of initiatives, processes, locations, departments, senior leadership, managers, and all team members and is a key part of a fun and dynamic HR team. **This position is onsite at Harbor’s corporate offices **

Compensation: $58,200 - $79,000 Hourly: Full-Time

Essential Job Functions:

  • Administers pre-employment process to include drug tests and all required background checks.
  • Administers all required documentation for all leaves of absence and workers compensation (WC) claims.
  • Coordinates onboarding of all new hires from the point of accepted offer to completion of new hire orientation.
  • Responsible for ensuring a smooth and engaging weekly new hire orientation and presentation of company materials to new hire classes.
  • Walk team members through complex leave situations, including overlapping FMLA/ADA/PFML or PLO, etc.
  • Help team members navigate their workers compensation claims with compassion.
  • Manages team member offboarding.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining team members' files electronically; Responsible for building and maintaining DOT Driver qualification files.
  • Responsible for facilitating the DOT random process, including scheduling DOT drug tests and following up with leadership to ensure timely compliance.
  • Creates new hire and replacement security access cards.
  • Support and respond to HRIS questions and needs, such as password resets.
  • Support and respond to policy and Handbook questions.
  • Responsible for the daily maintenance of our HRIS, including new hires, department, and job and department changes.
  • Responsible for preparing payroll change sheets to include new hires, referral bonuses, and badge access replacements.
  • Responsible for completing past employment verifications.
  • Special projects, events, and other duties as assigned by the manager.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of employment law, state and federal, is preferred.  
  • Exposure to administering leave of absences is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of DOT Driver statutes under the FMCSA and processes is preferred.
  • Ability to document, in detail, employee concerns on a variety of subjects, including company policy, and benefits, and help employees with other issues which may affect their work life.
  • Ability to work well with other employees to foster a respectful and professional work environment.

Education and Experience:

  • BA in Human Resources, Business or a relevant field of study or experience equivalent to this education preferred.
  • Two to five years of direct Human Resource experience as either a Specialist, Coordinator, Assistant or Generalist highly preferred.
  • Experienced organizational skills, have excellent written and oral communication skills, and be able to make presentations to small groups.
  • Solid intermediate level using Excel spreadsheets, Microsoft Outlook, and other Microsoft suite programs required.
