Job Title: Histology Technician
Job Location: Fort Myers, FL
Start Date: ASAP
Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday 2p-10:30p
Weekly Estimated Pay or Pay Range: $30.00 to $36.00 per hour
Qualifications:
- Years of Experience:
- Level I: 1+ years as an ASCP Histotechnician/Histotechnologist preferred
- Level II: 4+ years as an ASCP Histotechnician/Histotechnologist preferred
- Education:
- Bachelor of Science in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution - OR -
- Associate of Science in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution - OR -
- Equivalent education of 60 semester hours with 24 semester hours in biological and chemical science courses.
- Certification:
- Nationally: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP)
- FL: current state technician or technologist license
- Basic understanding of laboratory techniques
- Possesses appropriate computer skills to accomplish tasks
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently
- Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment while maintaining production and quality standards
- Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and standards outlined in the companys Safety Data Sheet Database
- Good visual acuity including color perception required for certain departments
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
Job Responsibilities:
- Receives tissue specimens and ensures proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples
- Processes paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting
- Performs routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), according to established Standard Operating Procedures
- Performs microtomy according to established Standard Operating Procedures
- Embeds processed tissue in paraffin wax
- Performs coverslipping of stained slides either manually or automated
- Performs all special stain procedures according to established Standard Operating Procedures
- Performs filing of blocks and slides
- Maintains laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as cleaning, performing or scheduling equipment and instrument maintenance/calibration/certification, as required. Documents remedial actions such as repairs or repeated test
