Histology Technician - Staining Specialist - $5k Sign -On Bonus

The Histology Technician -Staining Specialist works closely with the Director of IHC and Special Stains (physician) to ensure the quality of all IHC and special stains. The Staining Specialist is responsible for preparing tissue specimens for and performing IHC and special staining techniques for microscopic examination. This position performs and demonstrates proficiency and understanding of IHC and special stains on automated platforms and hand staining techniques. The Staining Specialist is responsible for prioritizing staining procedures and completing those procedures in an accurate and timely manner, maintaining proper and accurate records of all tests done in accordance with established policies, procedures and regulations, training staff and ensuring competencies. The Staining Specialist is responsible for ensuring all validations, QC, and maintenance are performed accurately and are properly documented in accordance with CLIA regulations. The Staining Specialist reports directly to the Lab Manager.

- Monday: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- Tuesday: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- Wednesday: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- Thursday: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- Friday: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

- Oversee all aspects of the staining areas
- Maintain Policies and Procedures pertaining to staining
- Daily, weekly and monthly maintenance of machines including decontamination procedures
- Ensure QC logs are properly filled out
- Maintain bulk solutions
- Troubleshoot and perform root-cause analysis for staining inconsistencies
- Oversee/troubleshoot list collating
- Prepare control blocks
- Cut control slides
- Inventory, ordering, and receiving of all supplies for the staining areas
- Optimize and validate new antibodies
- Validate new lots of antibodies and detection kits
- Develop and implement any necessary changes to workflow due to growth or changes in technology
- Assist with cutting the list when available
- Assist with cutting H&Es when available
- Train personnel in SS, IHC, & DIFs
- Assess competencies of personnel in staining areas
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education
- Associate’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field is required
- HT/L ASCP certification is required
- QIHC (ASCP) is preferred (attain certification within one year)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- 2+ years of experience in the field or in a related area is preferred.
- Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Must have knowledge of anatomy and tissue pathology.
