Overview
COMPANY is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Head Audio Engineer to oversee all technical aspects of live productions in the newly renovated Theater. This state-of-the-art facility features a cutting-edge Allen & Heath Avantis audio console, full ETC stage and house lighting systems, a high-definition projection system with theater screen, and integrated backstage communication.
The Head Audio Engineer will serve as the technical lead and supervisor for all theater events, ensuring professional-grade audio and visual experiences for performances, assemblies, and special events. This position will require evening and weekend availability to support rehearsals, performances, and special programming.
Key Responsibilities
Audio Engineering & Mixing
· Operate and manage the Allen & Heath Avantis digital mixing console for live performances
· Set up and manage wireless microphone systems, I/O configurations, and in-ear monitor systems
· Perform live mixing for music, theater, and spoken word events
· Record performances and rehearsals as needed, ensuring high-quality audio capture
Technical Supervision & Event Support
· Lead and supervise all technical aspects of load-in, setup, strike, and breakdown for events
· Coordinate with lighting technicians, stage managers, and production teams to ensure seamless execution
· Provide backstage communication support and troubleshoot AV systems during live events
System Maintenance & Troubleshooting
· Maintain and update audio, lighting, and projection systems
· Perform routine diagnostics and repairs on AV equipment
· Ensure all systems are performance-ready and compliant with safety standards
Visual & Lighting Integration
· Operate and support projector and theater screen systems for multimedia presentations
· Collaborate with lighting technicians to integrate audio and visual elements cohesively
· Assist with rigging and stage setup when necessary
Team Collaboration & Training
· Work closely with school staff, student tech crews, and external production teams
· Train and mentor student technicians in audio and AV operations
· Foster a collaborative and professional backstage environment
Qualifications
· Proven experience in live sound engineering, preferably in a theater or performance venue
· Proficiency with digital mixing consoles (Allen & Heath preferred)
· Strong understanding of wireless audio systems, I/O routing, and in-ear monitoring
· Experience with recording, rigging, and projection systems
· Familiarity with ETC lighting consoles and stage lighting integration
· Ability to lead technical crews and work collaboratively with diverse teams
· Excellent troubleshooting and organizational skills
Preferred Skills
· Experience in educational or youth-centered performance environments
· Knowledge of theater production workflows and backstage communication systems
· Ability to adapt to fast-paced, high-pressure live event scenarios
· Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by the production schedule
