Grants Manager – Nonprofit Organization

The Role

The Grants Manager is a key member of the finance team, responsible for overseeing the full financial lifecycle of a diverse portfolio of government and private grants. This role ensures compliance, accurate reporting, and proper fund allocation while partnering closely with program teams.

The ideal candidate is both technically strong and able to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Financial Compliance & Reporting

  • Manage all financial aspects of grant and contract compliance to ensure adherence to funder requirements
  • Prepare and submit accurate, timely financial reports and invoices for federal, state, and private funding sources
  • Execute monthly billing, including detailed voucher billing for all awards
  • Oversee full grant closeout process for expiring awards

Accounting & Operations

  • Review financial statements, P&L, and general ledger activity; prepare journal entries as needed
  • Perform revenue reconciliations for grants and other funding sources
  • Set up and maintain grants within the accounting system
  • Provide backup support to finance team members as needed

Budgeting & Audit Support

  • Develop and review grant budgets in collaboration with program leadership
  • Support the annual organizational budgeting process
  • Prepare reconciliations and supporting schedules for audits and monitoring visits
  • Coordinate documentation and respond to audit requests

Process Improvement

  • Assist in maintaining and enhancing accounting policies and procedures
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency in grant management and financial operations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • 5+ years of grant accounting or grant management experience within a nonprofit environment
  • Strong knowledge of grant compliance and reporting requirements
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting systems (Fund-EZ or similar preferred)
  • Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally
