Key Responsibilities of the Grant Accountant:

  • Manage the financial oversight of grant-funded programs, including budget tracking, expense monitoring, and financial reporting
  • Maintain detailed records for grants and restricted funds, ensuring accuracy and compliance with funding requirements
  • Prepare grant-related financial reports and support internal stakeholders with budget updates and analysis
  • Support grant audits by compiling schedules, documentation, and reconciliations
  • Process payroll accurately and on time, maintaining employee records and resolving discrepancies
  • Allocate payroll and related expenses across grants and cost centers based on approved methodologies
  • Reconcile payroll allocations to the general ledger and investigate variances
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities, budgeting, and forecasting for grant-funded programs

Qualifications of the Grant Accountant:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. CPA certification preferred.
  • 2–4+ years of experience in grant accounting or fund accounting
  • Working knowledge of grant compliance requirements (Uniform Guidance, payroll regulations, etc.)
  • Experience with accounting and payroll systems; exposure to grant management platforms preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and reconciliation skills
