GitHub Administrator
Position Overview
The GitHub Administrator will be responsible for managing and maintaining GitHub Enterprise environment, ensuring secure, efficient, and compliant software development practices across the organization. This role combines technical expertise with administrative oversight to support development teams and maintain enterprise-grade version control infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Administration
- Administer and maintain GitHub Enterprise Cloud environment
- Manage user accounts, teams, organizations, and access permissions following least-privilege principles
- Monitor system health, performance metrics, and storage capacity
- Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures
Security & Compliance
- Enforce security policies including branch protection rules, code scanning, and secret detection
- Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments
- Ensure compliance with corporate security standards and regulatory requirements
- Investigate and respond to security incidents related to code repositories
- Implement and enforce data loss prevention measures
Access Management & Governance
- Design and implement repository governance frameworks and naming conventions
- Manage repository access controls and approval workflows
- Oversee third-party integrations and OAuth applications
- Maintain documentation of administrative procedures and best practices
- Conduct periodic access reviews and remove unnecessary permissions
Support & Training
- Provide technical support to development teams for Git and GitHub-related issues
- Develop and deliver training materials on GitHub best practices
- Create and maintain internal documentation and knowledge base articles
- Collaborate with DevOps teams on CI/CD pipeline integrations
- Serve as liaison between development teams and GitHub support
Automation & Optimization
- Develop automation scripts for routine administrative tasks
- Implement GitHub Actions workflows for administrative processes
- Create custom integrations using GitHub APIs
- Optimize repository structures and workflows for efficiency
- Monitor and report on usage metrics and adoption trends
Required Qualifications
Technical Skills
- 3+ years of experience with Git version control and GitHub platform
- Strong understanding of GitHub Enterprise architecture and administration
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation
- Programming languages (C#, Typescript)
- Web Programming knowledge (Angular, React)
- Experience with REST APIs and webhook integrations
- Knowledge of authentication protocols (SAML, OAuth, LDAP)
- Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and tools (GitHub Actions, DevOps, etc.)
Professional Experience
- Previous experience in a platform or systems administration role
- Experience managing enterprise-scale version control systems
- Background supporting software development teams
- Understanding of software development lifecycle and DevOps practices
Security & Compliance
- Strong understanding of information security principles
- Experience implementing security controls and compliance frameworks
- Knowledge of secure coding practices and code review processes
- Familiarity with industry security standards (SOC 2, ISO 27001, etc.)
Soft Skills
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Ability to communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Customer service orientation with focus on developer experience
- Documentation skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- GitHub Certified Professional certification
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Knowledge of infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible)
- Background in the oil & gas or energy industry
- Experience with enterprise identity management systems
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Pay and Benefits
- Pay Range Minimum: $125,000
- Pay Range Maximum: $193,000

Compensation and Benefits
A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their work location, skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law. This role may also be eligible for performance-based bonuses subject to company policies. In addition, this role is eligible for the following benefits subject to company policies: medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, life, accidental death & dismemberment, and disability insurance; employee assistance program; 401(k) retirement plan; 10 days of paid time off per year (some positions are eligible for need-based leave with no designated number of leave days per year); and 10 paid holidays per year.
