Geotechnical Engineer

Baer Testing and Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to manage projects and help grow our geotechnical services from our office in Yakima Washington. Key requirements of the position include a keen understanding of geotechnical engineering principles, building client relationships, and developing new customers.

The successful candidate will be working directly with the President and General Manager to:

· Market services to established clients and develop new relationships

· Develop geotechnical engineering study proposals

· Coordinate field explorations and laboratory testing programs

· Develop design and construction recommendations

· Prepare geotechnical engineering reports for commercial structures, industrial facilities, educational facilities, roads, bridges, and highways

· Promote follow-on testing and special inspection services.

Critical thinking skills are required to solve technical issues and develop project-specific solutions. The position will require travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Plan, conduct and supervise geotechnical engineering design and analysis related to civil engineering projects. Responsibilities may include managing and preparing geotechnical and geologic field investigations, reviewing field investigation boring logs and data and assigning project specific laboratory testing, conducting engineering analyses and design for foundation design, fill placement/ground modification design, seepage evaluation, slope stability and seismic analyses, and preparing, editing, and reviewing geotechnical engineering reports and documents for a variety of applications.
• Develop and/or review quality control/assurance specifications and documentation during engineering design projects and during field construction activities.
• Conduct field observations, site visits, and exploration programs. Verify that work performed complies with contract specifications.
• Prepare preliminary and detailed design drawings and specifications for engineering projects
• Participate in marketing and business development efforts, personally contributing to developing new projects and clients. Provide pursuit planning and proposal preparation.
• Participate in developing a growth strategy for expanding geotechnical services.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering with an emphasis in geotechnical applications; MS in Geotechnical Engineering preferred plus equivalent experience
• Registration as PE in Washington or ability to obtain within 3 months is REQUIRED.
• Progressive experience in geotechnical engineering
• Construction experience and ability to troubleshoot issues in the field
• Working knowledge of Auto CAD; computer modelling skills are a plus
• Must be able to occasionally travel to project sites, both local and remote, work in the field during all seasons and weather conditions, and be able to lift heavy loads (up to 50 pounds). Experience logging boreholes using both auger and coring methods is preferred. Occasional weekend and odd hours may occur.
