Role Overview
The Freight Rail Engineering Project Manager will support a rapidly growing Transportation Practice, leading freight rail and rail industrial development projects from concept through completion. This role requires strong client-facing skills and the ability to manage multi-discipline engineering teams while maintaining responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
• Adhere to and promote Safety & Health programs, training, and policies for project teams and subcontractors
• Lead and coordinate multi-discipline teams of engineers and technicians on rail engineering design and analysis
• Collaborate with contractors and construction teams on design-build rail projects
• Provide leadership across project safety, quality, engineering, procurement, construction, environmental compliance, and project controls
• Manage all aspects of railroad/transit engineering projects, including business development, scope and fee development, staffing plans, and financial performance
• Develop new and manage existing client relationships and serve as the primary client interface
• Lead internal and external project risk reviews and consult with Legal as required
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies and oversee project planning, budgeting, and scheduling
• Communicate project status, risks, schedules, and costs to internal and external stakeholders
• Manage downstream contract administration including RFIs, submittals, change management, contract closeout, and claims mitigation
• Mentor less experienced staff and contribute to advancing rail engineering technologies and practices
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Skills & Qualifications
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program
• Minimum 7 years of related experience, including 5+ years in the development or management of rail engineering or architectural projects
• Strong preference for candidates with freight rail or rail industrial development experience
• Proven ability to lead multi-discipline engineering teams
• Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines and pressure
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to balance big-picture strategy and technical detail
• Experience working directly with rail clients

• Experience with engineering software such as MicroStation, OpenRail, Geopak, InRoads, or equivalent design/production tools
