Calling Experienced Framers interested in a Career Change:
We are Training Material Estimators (NO Estimating experience necessary)

Take your field knowledge and move into a stable, desk-based role that keeps you in the trade—without the weather, ladders, or jobsite wear-and-tear.

Our small family run estimating company is hiring a Material Takeoff Estimator focused on lumber and framing. This role is ideal for an experienced framer who can read plans and immediately spot what’s missing. If you are in Washington's Preferred Worker Program, this is a great fit for someone with a framing background unable to continue with the physical labor framing requires.

You’ll be trained in our proven “old-school” estimating workflow using a digitizer and construction calculator. Your success here depends on real framing knowledge—how assemblies are actually built, how materials are actually used, and how to catch plan issues before they turn into costly mistakes. The company is evolving into a fully digital format, so an aptitude for computers and a willingness to learn and help the company translate field knowledge to a software based system is key. Experience with estimating or estimating software is not necessary. We are not looking for a computer wiz - we are looking for a framer with a solid understanding of the construction process.

What You’ll Do (once trained)

  • Create accurate lumber and framing takeoffs from residential and/or commercial plans
  • Read blueprints, schedules, and details; identify missing information, conflicts, and common plan deficiencies
  • Follow structured workflow and internal standards for consistent output
  • Complete repetitive measurement and quantity work with strong accuracy and verification habits
  • Meet production expectations and support deadline-driven workload (occasional overtime/weekend work may be required)
  • As we modernize, help transition proven takeoff methods into increasingly digital estimating workflows

Requirements

Framing background is required. Estimating experience is not.

  • 5–10+ years hands-on framing experience preferred (residential and/or commercial)
  • Strong understanding of framing methods, materials, and construction sequencing
  • Comfortable working with measurements, counts, waste factors, and verification
  • High attention to detail; able to focus and stay accurate in repetitive, detail-heavy work
  • Reliable, self-directed, and able to meet deadlines without constant supervision
  • Computer aptitude and interest in technology (no estimating software required today, but this role will become increasingly digital over time)

Training & Work Setup

  • Training occurs in person in Spokane, WA for approximately 1–3 months depending on speed of adaptation.
  • Flexible training days: 4/10s or 5/8s (weekends also an option)
  • After training, the role incrementally transitions to work-from-home w occasional in-office time (Main office is relocating to Coeur d'Alene - must be able to occasionally commute to ID).
  • Must be available for full-time hours (40+ / week) with flexibility during deadline periods
  • Training wage:$23–$25/hr DOE - increases (up to) $29/hr once trained (depending on efficiency and accuracy)
