Salary Range: $65,486 to $77,156 /172-day annual academic year contract, dependent upon education/experience, Summer quarter will have additional pay
Teaching summer quarter will also be included in the regular teaching cycle with additional pay.
*This position qualifies for $3,308/year in high demand supplemental salary per academic year in addition to annual contract amount above.

Students in the automotive department are part of a community of faculty, students, and industry. Our faculty have industry experience as Master Technicians and are dedicated to educating the next generation of technicians. The state-of-the-art professional automotive training center is used by students as well as industry partners. The Automotive Student Service Education Training (ASSET) program is regarded among the top in the nation. Automotive faculty are responsible for teaching, developing, and leading a cooperative program in automotive technology. Faculty teach theory and lab in all the following areas: Automotive Electronics, Engines, Manual & Automatic Transmissions/transaxles, Engine Management & Emissions, Electrical Systems, Heating & Air Conditioning, Brakes & Suspension.
In addition to teaching, duties include student advising in the automotive technology program, coordination of student recruitment, selection, dealer placement and graduate follow up with local Ford and Lincoln automobile dealers. To remain current with automotive technology, the faculty member in this position will attend manufacturer-sponsored classes, coordinate and participate on automotive advisory committees, serve as liaison and resource person for the College-area automobile dealers and Ford Motor Company, revise and update curriculum as required to meet industry standards and participate in college governance as well as department/division and campus-related professional activities. At least one-third of the teaching assignment may be in the evening, during the summer quarter and/or at off-campus locations. NOTE: An on-campus presence is required for this position.
Faculty at Shoreline will have an array of students from differing programs in their classroom, including professional technical and university transfers. Qualifications
Required Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- All eight (8) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications attained within 1 year of start date
- A1: Engine Repair
- A2: Automatic Transmission/Transaxle
- A3: Manual Drive Train & Axles
- A4: Suspension & Steering
- A5: Brakes
- A6: Electrical/Electronic Systems
- A7: Heating & Air Conditioning
- A8: Engine Performance
- L1: Advanced Engine Performance Specialist Certification
- G1: Maintenance and Light Repair
- Minimum of three (3) years of dealership/manufacturer work experience
Knowledge of
- Current applicable developments, research, and trends in the field
- Microsoft Office programs, learning management systems and other appropriate instructional technology (ex. ctcLink, Canvas, Starfish, etc.)
Skill in
- Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of automotive technology.
- Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
- Experience with or willingness to gain experience with teaching and developing coursework online
- Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilities
- Developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently
- Working, communicating, and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators, and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
Conditions of Employment
Physical Work Environment
The College operates in a hybrid structure, with the option for some assignments to be completed in an online environment based on program or area needs. If authorized by the College for remote (online) instruction, faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For on-campus in-person instruction, work is usually performed in a classroom, lab, or office space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Faculty typically use computers and media equipment in the work environment as well as other position-specific tools and machinery.
Term Of Employment/Salary
- This is a full-time, 172-day annual contract tenure-track position starting September 17th, 2026
- Summer quarter will be added and paid in addition to the academic year salary
- Salary placement is determined by the number of qualifying years of teaching/work experience combined with education.
- Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
