As a Fire Protection Engineer within Architecture & Facilities Engineering (A&FE), you will serve as a subject matter expert in fire protection, life safety, and building and fire codes. This role supports a wide variety of projects across resort properties, including attractions, maintenance, food services, merchandise, entertainment, and utility systems—ranging from minor renovations to new construction and rapid-response efforts.
You will act as the Owner’s Technical Representative, working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure all projects align with design standards, applicable codes, and best practices for fire and life safety.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
Serve as the Owner’s Technical Representative throughout the full project lifecycle, from concept through sustainment.
Provide technical guidance on engineering challenges, code compliance, design management, and life cycle cost analysis.
Project & Design Management
Manage the development of contract documents using both internal teams and external consultants to meet defined scope, schedule, and budget.
Coordinate design efforts and oversee field activities, including installation and demolition, ensuring compliance with specifications and codes.
Review system designs, drawings, calculations, and submittals for accuracy, completeness, and quality.
Recommend system upgrades, enhancements, and replacements as needed.
Technical Execution
Develop conceptual designs and prepare Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
Review engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
Evaluate shop drawings and respond to vendor Requests for Information (RFIs).
Provide field engineering support, including inspection, testing, maintenance input, and troubleshooting system issues.
Conduct fire hazard assessments, root cause investigations, and failure analyses.
Perform site visits to resolve technical issues and minimize project delays.
Collaboration & Standards
Partner with internal teams to develop, maintain, and enforce design guidelines, standards, specifications, and details.
Support Project and Design Managers in resolving compliance-related issues.
Verify that specifications align with installed systems prior to documentation and archiving.
Foster clear communication and alignment among stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited university (Master’s preferred).
Experience in fire protection system design, construction, or consulting.
Strong knowledge of building and fire codes, including NFPA standards.
Experience with performance-based design and alternative compliance approaches.
Familiarity with OSHA requirements and industry standards (NFPA, ASTM, ICC, CFR).
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
Strong communication skills and willingness to travel.
Ability to lead project design teams.
Preferred Qualifications
NFPA CFPS Certification.
Master’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field and/or MBA.
Experience with theme parks, resort hotels, or mixed-use developments.
Mechanical/plumbing experience, including backflow prevention analysis.
Experience with fire and smoke modeling tools and egress analysis.
Involvement in codes and standards development or committee participation.
Experience with fire testing and application of test methods to building materials.
Work Schedule
Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Additional hours, including extended or off-shift work, may be required based on project needs
