Position overview:
SLAC¿s Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) has an exciting opportunity for an entry-level Financial Analyst 1 for the Mission Support finance team.You will have the opportunity to apply a variety of skills ranging from preparing and developing financial reports, approving and monitoring expenses, learning to analyze and translate financial results into accurate forecast and business drivers, evaluating controls and compliance with government accounting requirements, and supporting improvement of OCFO processes.You will provide management decision support using PeopleSoft, Adaptive, Tableau, and Excel-based tools.
This position is expected to maintain an effective and engaged working relationship across all finance functions at SLAC.The ideal candidate is skilled in balancing customer service and support with controls and compliance.
SLAC is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) laboratory operated by Stanford University and based in Menlo Park, CA. Given the nature of this position, SLAC is open to on-site and hybrid work options.
Your specific responsibilities include:
+ Perform moderately complex finance functions and/or activities related to budgeting and forecasting requiring specific knowledge, skills, and broad application of policies, precedents, and systems within context of internal policies and external regulations.
+ Perform structured analysis; conduct data mining; identify, clarify, and investigate discrepancies and exceptions; proactively develop solutions and processes.
+ Maintain, reconcile, review, combine, and validate financial data sets and accounts, utilizing financial reports, financial databases, and key financial information.
+ Contribute to development of budget, forecasting, and analyses to be used for key activities or decision making.
+ Run and analyze financial reports, often from multiple systems; assist in preparation of management information reports.
+ Resolve issues within immediate work unit; Perform preliminary analysis, recognize exceptions and recommend solutions that may require policy changes or the development of new processes.
+ Ensure works complies with complex internal policies and external regulations which may require interpretation.
+ Participate as a member of a project team and contribute to change management strategy through communication and collaboration with others.
+ Understand and participate in cross training on core functions in work area or unit; serve as a back-up to other functions.

To be successful in this position you will bring:
+ Bachelor¿s degree and two years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
+ Ability to prioritize competing deliverables.
+ Proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
+ User knowledge and demonstrated experience of financial systems; internet and computer literacy.
+ Keen attention to detail.
+ Understanding and ability to apply basic accounting skills and concepts.
+ Demonstrated communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal audiences and client groups.
+ Basic project management skills and ability to contribute as part of a project team.
+ It is highly desired that the successful candidate will be a self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity, managing large data sets, and working in a matrix organization.

+ As a national laboratory, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is responsible for adhering to the Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) and Department of Energy (DOE) Order 473.1A, which require employees to obtain and maintain a HSPD-12 Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Credential. To obtain this credential, employees must successfully complete the applicable tier of federal background investigation post hire and receive a favorable federal adjudication.
