Field Service Specialists for ASU Parking and Transit Services (PTS) are assigned to high-volume parking facilities and play a key role in delivering frontline customer service to faculty, staff, students, and campus visitors. This position supports daily parking operations by ensuring garage equipment such as gate arms, ticket dispensers, intercoms, and fee computers remain fully operational. Field Service Specialists assist customers by providing general campus information, directions, parking alternatives, and related guidance. The position is also assigned to and trained in the parking dispatch office and will work scheduled shifts in dispatch as needed to support operational coverage. This role requires working outdoors for the full duration of assigned field shifts.
Regular schedule is Wednesday through Sunday, 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Schedule adjustments may be required based on operational and event needs. Overtime and additional hours are consistently available to support parking operations and special events.
Essential Duties:
- Serve as a primary on-site representative for Parking and Transit Services at assigned high-volume parking facilities, delivering courteous and effective customer service to faculty, staff, students, and campus visitors.
- Maintain the functionality of parking facilities by monitoring, inspecting, and assisting with the operation of parking equipment, including gate arms, ticket dispensers, intercoms, and fee computers, and reporting issues as needed.
- Primary focus is supporting parking and campus events, including staffing parking lot and garage entry lanes, managing traffic flow, assisting motorists, and placing, moving, and removing barricades.
- Provide general campus information, directions, parking alternatives, and other assistance to customers.
- Respond to intercom calls and communicate via two-way radio and telephone.
- Complete manual and electronic forms, write exit citations, and prepare activity logs and reports.
- Perform minor troubleshooting, cleaning, and basic maintenance of parking equipment and report service or maintenance issues to
- Assigned to and trained in the parking dispatch office and work scheduled shifts in dispatch as needed to support operational coverage.
- Operate ASU-owned, leased, or rented vehicles and carts to perform work at various campus locations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience working parking or event operations in a high-volume environment.
- Experience providing customer service to the general public.
- Experience with electronic and mechanical equipment, including gate systems and intercoms.
- Experience with traffic control, event staffing, or crowd management.
- Experience with credit and debit card transactions.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and complete reports.
- Experience working in an outdoor environment and varying weather conditions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Valid Class D driver’s license with acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Experience working in a dispatch or operations support environment preferred.
Working Environment:
- Work is primarily performed outdoors and requires standing and walking for extended periods in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind.
- Duties involve frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 35 pounds, including barricades and equipment.
- Safely operate ASU vehicles and carts, requiring frequent entry and exit.
- Regular use of two-way radios and telephones.
- Frequent changes in priorities and the ability to resolve conflicts in a fast-paced environment.
- At times, work is performed in an environmentally controlled office or dispatch setting involving extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and mouse use.
- Scheduled work locations and assignments are subject to change based on operational needs.
- Evidence of clear verbal communication and in writing, and read, see, and hear to perform essential functions.
