Job Description
The Facility Security and Safety Specialist ensures the safety and security of our food distribution facilities. The primary focus of the role is to ensure that our facilities are secure and maintained for the protection of life and property, preservation of our food defense plan, enforcement of laws and regulations, emergency management, planning, facility security, personnel clearances, and continuous employee training & development. The Facility Security and Safety Specialist coordinates with internal teams and external agencies to uphold safety & security standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (any combination of the following job duties):
Promotes a "Safety Focused" culture throughout the company that incorporates operations, transportation, and safety
Operate with strong communication, interpersonal, problem solving, and innovative thinking skills
Ensuring compliance with company policies and security industry regulations
Conduct daily security operations (patrols, access control, surveillance)
Creating security reports for the management on organization's current security status
Develop, implement, and update security policies and procedures
Perform periodic site risk assessments and provide recommended improvements
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety/security regulations
Monitor alarm systems, CCTV, and other security technologies
Ensure implementation of effective facility and security management policies across the business; act as first point of contact regarding security procedures
Collaborate with Safety, HR, and Food Safety to develop an on-going program to ensure employee awareness and compliance to our Security policies & procedures
Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with food handling and warehouse security standards
Respond to and investigate facility security breaches, thefts, or workplace security incidents
Manage contractor/vendor program by being responsible for badge issuance, visitor logs, safety induction and contractor access to ensure traceability and accountability
Train employees on security protocols and emergency procedures
Coordinating with the external security staff to ensure company needs are met
Audit facility security systems and recommend upgrades
Track and analyze incident trends to improve prevention strategies
Stay updated on emerging threats and best practices in facility security
Monitor access control systems & key management program to prevent unauthorized entry and contamination risks
Peripheral Duties:
Maintain logs, draft incident reports, and assist with compliance documentation
Help coordinate safety drills, onboarding sessions, or refresher courses for employees
Liaise with contractors for maintenance of security systems, alarms, or safety equipment
Track and manage supplies such as PPE, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and emergency tools
Remind staff of safety protocols, distribute updated guidelines, and encourage compliance
Environmental inspections such as check lighting, signage, and hazard controls to support a safe workplace
Perform routine inspections of CCTV, badge readers, and alarm systems to ensure functionality
Work with HR, facility maintenance, and safety committees on cross-departmental initiatives
Qualifications
State-prescribed security training, licensing, and registration
2+ years of experience in security, safety, or risk management roles
Strong knowledge of physical security systems (CCTV, access control, alarms)
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations
Familiarity with OSHA, local safety regulations, and compliance standards
Extensive experience in preventing illegal activity and performing access control
Knowledge of security industry regulations
Current driving license and driving record in good standing preferred
Able to safely work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Must be able to read write and speak English fluently
Intermediate word and excel skills for correspondence and reporting duties/ pivot tables
Intermediate MS Outlook skills for regular communication with peers
Must be able to assist a diverse workforce and communicate clearly with various levels of management
