Since 1964, NWRRC has been a nonprofit leader in structured reentry services, operating a 150-bed residential center in Portland. We support, educate, and encourage justice-involved residents as they transition back to the community with improved life skills, accountability, and safety for all.
We are seeking a reliable, skilled Maintenance Technician to handle day-to-day repairs, preventive maintenance, cleaning, and grounds care. You'll respond to routine/emergency work orders, ensure compliance and cleanliness, and support a secure environment that aids successful reintegration while strictly following security, tool-control, and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and emergency repairs/maintenance on building systems (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, appliances, carpentry, painting, drywall, flooring, doors/locks, windows, roofing, furniture, security systems).
- Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance, safety checks (fire extinguishers/alarms/sprinklers), emergency generator testing, and regular inspections of buildings, grounds, equipment, and security systems; report issues immediately.
- Respond promptly to staff work orders, prioritizing safety, security, or program-impacting repairs.
- Perform sanitation and custodial duties: clean/sanitize restrooms, common areas, floors, surfaces, windows; handle trash removal and biohazard cleanup.
- Paint interior/exterior surfaces; complete minor remodeling, construction, or grounds tasks (mowing, snow removal, landscaping, parking lots, fencing, signage).
- Safely operate/maintain hand/power tools, diagnostic equipment, and organizational vehicles; adhere to tool/key control and contraband prevention policies.
- Maintain accurate records/logs of activities, inspections, inventory, supplies, and contractor work.
- Coordinate/schedule/oversee outside contractors for specialized/regulated tasks; requisition approved materials within budget.
- Follow Maintenance Supervisor direction, show flexibility, and perform other duties as assigned.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Starting Hourly Rate: $30.85
- Full-Time Benefits (part-time may vary):
- Healthcare: 100% medical, vision and dental premiums covered for employees; 50% for spouse and dependents (includes life/AD&D/long-term disability).
- Retirement: SEP-IRA with 7% employer contribution (after 1 year).
- PTO/Vacation: Up to 18 days annually.
- Sick Time: Up to 12 days annually.
- Tuition Assistance: Up to 50% for related degrees/certificates (after 6 months).
- Fitness Stipend: Up to $50/month.
- Free Meals: Complimentary cafeteria meals daily.
Qualifications:
- Prior hands-on maintenance experience required; residential, institutional, hospitality, or secure/facility maintenance experience preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of building systems; proficient with tools; able to read blueprints/manuals.
- Skills in preventive maintenance, life-safety/security systems, OSHA familiarity.
- Excellent attention to detail, documentation, time management, and teamwork.
Additional Requirements:
- Pass comprehensive pre-employment process.
- Valid driver's license with favorable record.
- Flexible availability: NWRRC operates 24/7; days and hours vary based on position status, staffing, and demand. Maintenance is normally available Monday through Friday during regular business hours, but we are open to alternative schedules and both full-time and part-time options.
Physical Demands:
- Stand/walk/bend/stoop/kneel/crouch/crawl/climb ladders/stairs for extended periods; work in confined spaces/heights/all weather.
- Lift/carry/push/pull up to 75 lbs unassisted (heavier with assistance); frequent overhead reaching/repetitive motions.
- Visual acuity for blueprints/colors/small print/low-light inspections.
- Constant situational awareness and quick emergency response.
