A 2nd shift Maintenance Technician ensures the continuous operation of highly specialized equipment and cleanroom facilities during evening hours. They are responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance (PM) on complex machinery, such as autoclaves, bioreactors, and automated packaging systems, while strictly adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and OSHA safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Preventive & Corrective Maintenance: Perform scheduled PMs, diagnose mechanical/electrical failures, and repair equipment to minimize downtime, often working independently with minimal supervision.
- Equipment Specialization: Maintain lab-specific equipment, including CO2 incubators, bioreactors, cryogenics, clean steam generators, and water purification systems (RO/DI).
- GMP & Documentation: Accurately document all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections in a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) according to Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- Safety & Compliance: Maintain a clean, 5S-compliant work area, wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as PAPR, and comply with safety regulations (OSHA, EPA, FDA).
- Facility Support: Monitor and maintain HVAC, electrical systems, and plumbing, including cleanroom environments.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of electro-mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, with experience in troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment.
- Education/Experience: High School diploma or GED required, with a technical school certificate or equivalent experience (often 3-5+ years) in a manufacturing or pharmaceutical environment.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with cGMP, FDA, and OSHA requirements.
- Physical Ability: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods.
- Autonomy: Higher need for independent problem-solving due to reduced management presence.
- Support: Often responsible for covering both production machinery and facility-wide utilities.
