The Shop Supervisor / Production Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating daily production activities across welding, fabrication, sheet laser, and tube laser operations. This role ensures work is completed safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards. The position requires strong leadership, hands-on knowledge of metal fabrication processes, and the ability to manage people, schedules, equipment, and continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Job Details
Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily and weekly production activities across welding, fabrication, sheet laser, and tube laser operations
Assign labor, equipment, and resources based on workload, skill level, and production priorities
Ensure production goals, delivery commitments, safety standards, and quality requirements are consistently met
Supervise, train, coach, and develop welders, fabricators, laser operators, production technicians, and lead operators
Enforce company policies, safety procedures, PPE requirements, and performance standards
Monitor shop performance metrics including productivity, scrap, rework, downtime, and on-time delivery
Coordinate workflow between laser cutting, fabrication, welding, and finishing to maximize efficiency
Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings to ensure proper execution
Oversee in-process and final inspections to ensure compliance with drawings and customer specifications
Identify root causes of quality, safety, or production issues and implement corrective actions
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, quality, cost reduction, and waste elimination
Collaborate with engineering and programming to improve part design, nesting, and manufacturability
Maintain a safe working environment and stop production when safety or quality concerns arise
Coordinate preventive maintenance and respond to equipment downtime for welding, fabrication, and laser equipment
Assist with equipment purchases, upgrades, and vendor coordination as needed
Coordinate material flow with purchasing and inventory control to prevent shortages or delays
Monitor material usage, remnants, and scrap levels
Communicate production status, scheduling changes, and performance updates to management
Participate in planning meetings, audits, customer visits, and inspections
Support hiring decisions, onboarding, training, discipline, and performance evaluations
