Responsibilities
- Provide skilled nursing care to hospitalized patients, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and managing fluid therapy.
- Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures, ensuring a sterile field and providing necessary instruments and supplies.
- Administer and monitor anesthesia under veterinary supervision, maintaining patient stability.
- Perform diagnostic procedures such as radiography, sample collection for laboratory analysis, and basic in-house laboratory tests.
- Educate pet owners on medical conditions, treatment plans, and preventive care, answering their questions with clarity and empathy.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in the EMR system.
- Perform dental prophylaxis and assist with dental procedures.
- Ensure the hospital's veterinary equipment is maintained and sterilized appropriately.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited veterinary technology program.
- Current Indiana Veterinary Technician License.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Certified Veterinary Technician.
- Proficiency in anesthesia monitoring, surgical assistance, and diagnostic imaging (radiology, ultrasound).
- Strong understanding of veterinary pharmacology and laboratory procedures.
- Excellent client communication and education skills.
- Ability to handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
