Estimator – Heavy Civil
Opportunity
A well-established heavy civil contractor is seeking an experienced Estimator to prepare complete, accurate estimates for all contract types, including lump sum and time-and-material projects.
This role ensures that bids are comprehensive, competitive, and aligned with project specifications. The Estimator is also responsible for following up with clients to obtain feedback on proposals and support the overall success of the bidding process.

Responsibilities of this Position
Prepare detailed project cost estimates.
Foster relationships with key clients.
Communicate effectively with subcontractors and suppliers.
Attend on-site pre-bid/proposal conferences and site visits.
Develop and review subcontractor scopes of work; accept, review, and analyze subcontractor quotes for best value.
Prepare project bid status reports and ensure compliance with all specifications, contract statements of work, and bid invitations.
Present cost estimates to meet customer proposals, providing consideration for general and special conditions.
Prepare scope specifications and requirements, input project schedules, perform quantity take-offs, prepare cost summary sheets, and input quantities into estimating software.
Maintain an accurate, current database of cost codes/accounts for historical data.
Utilize appropriate company and industry historical data for pricing estimates.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
Preferred related estimating experience.
Experience in deep foundations or heavy civil works is a plus.
Project estimator skills, including performing basic engineering calculations and familiarity with engineering terminology.
Ability to effectively communicate with Engineers, Project Managers, and vendors.
Strong analytical skills.
Excellent communication skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to read, understand, and organize construction plans and specifications.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal structure while exercising sound judgment.
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Project, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
Preferred
Knowledge of AutoCAD.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
