Overview:The Mgr, Epic Applications is responsible for supporting the technology objectives that are aligned to the business goals for Electronic Health Records and Practice Management Systems (EHR and PMS). This position is responsible for the overall systems management, operations, and support for the PDS business, supported offices, and affiliated organizations. The Mgr, Epic Applications is involved in the design, configuration, testing, and implementation of clinical and practice management application systems. They will provide support to clinical and operational users through knowledge of business and clinical processes, documentation needs, workflows, and clinical practice standards when adapting software to meet their needs. Erroneous decisions or failure to adhere to objectives results in additional costs and serious delays in overall schedules. The Mgr, Epic Applications is a recognized leader and subject matter expert providing leadership and coordinated support for associated interfaces and systems.
Responsibilities
Achieves organizational objectives through the coordinated achievements of subordinate staff. Establishes departmental goals and objectives, functions with autonomy
Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and organizational goals and objectives
Manages EHR and PMS program development, software testing, estimates of costs and resource needs, budgets, distributed clinical information systems, and user support systems and executing them through subordinates
Reviews current status of EHR and PMS applications and alignment with clinical, operational and financial workflows and processes. Prepares recommendations for system improvements. Determines needs for upgrades, technical and procedural solutions to improve integration and effectiveness of various functions, clinical applications, and new releases. Triages work and issues to address business needs
Plans, implements, and manages the delivery of user aids and training programs in clinical applications and tools. Prepares detailed specs encompassing clinical and operational processes, information flow, risk and impact analysis
Develops, coordinates, and manages support systems for troubleshooting and resolving problems Facilitates coordination across projects when multiple teams are required to solve a single product development challenge. Proactively resolve conflict between the team and if needed escalates appropriately
Applies proven human resources management skills in staff selection, development, and evaluation. Creates a strong culture of teamwork to ensure the quality of daily operations, effective interdepartmental collaborations, and the timely achievement of objectives
Collaborates with key staff and managers across departments on issues of performance and functionality, as well as new applications development and implementations Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management
Advises and influences senior management on optimization and stabilization efforts, including quality improvement, state-of-the-art advances, vendor coordination, and the latest industry developments in clinical applications
Develops Standard Operating Procedures across streams of work to facilitate improvements. Advocates for change and innovation
Identifies trends and areas of non-compliance
Organizes resources to ensure strategic goals are achieved on time and within budget
Establish, lead, and manage the software applications development and management processes within the team ensuring the most efficient and effective methods are used. Software Application delivery using a combination of PMI and Agile methodologies
Identify and evaluate root causes to team impediments and subsequently strive to remove such impediments that may impact the team’s productivity
Lead and Manage departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, and enhance and maintain a best-of-class application team. Ensures team members adhere to defined internal controls and achieve goals in accordance with established policies
Work closely with the engineers, analysts, and teams to architect and develop the best technical design and approach and support strategy and execution to continuously improve the Patient, Customer, and User IT experience as well as maintain high levels of customer satisfaction
May provide customer service, troubleshooting, maintenance, and other duties as assigned by management
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare, Nursing, Business, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or related field from an accredited college, and 6+ years of related experience. In lieu of degree, 8+ years of experience is required or the equivalent combination of education and experience
5+ years Epic experience and/or 5+ years IT experience
Experience with managing/leading a team
Expert level understanding of functionality related to the application workstream
Strong computer skills including Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Project, and others related to job duties
At least 2 Epic Certifications in job related workstream
Ability to travel up to 50% as required
Must be able to provide on-call support (24/7) and work after hours and weekends as needed
Preferred
Experience in the dental/healthcare/retail industry
License and certifications: Any certifications relating to software applications, technology infrastructure and/or clinical specializations
Knowledge of Dental operations and structure, general requirements in an integrated delivery system, and use of IT applications in the practicing healthcare environment
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Strong knowledge of the EHR and PMS systems, including planning, design, development, testing, system integration, programming, data integrity and security, ITIL, ITSM and user support and training
Proven ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and delegate clinical applications work efficiently, with strong human resources management skills and knowledge
Demonstrated leadership skills managing IT professionals and collaborating with clinicians, operators, and stakeholders. Proven managerial, skills in planning and delegating work, deploying staff, resource management, budgeting, and financial management in attainment of goals
Strong critical-thinking, project-management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and interpret complex data and systems, to quickly identify problems and implement solutions
Proven ability to work effectively with senior management on operational and performance issues in developing goals, objectives, policies, strategies, quality improvement programs, systems for monitoring and ensuring user competence on clinical applications
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train users and to successfully manage extensive cross-functional interactions between the clinical applications team, users, related personnel, and outside vendors. Ability to convey complex information in a clear, concise, and specific manner, and to cultivate a strong commitment to quality and achievement of goals
Strong knowledge of healthcare information technology, workflows and processes and medical terminology. Comprehensive understanding of applications and integration with clinical, revenue and operational processes and workflows
Experience in professional software engineering practices & best practices for the software development life cycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, IT governance, change control and operations with a focus on continuous improvement

Salary Information: $117,000.00-$153,000.00 / Annually
