Job Overview
The Environmental Scientist Assistant role is a predominantly field-based position supporting upcoming construction projects. This position involves extensive travel and hands-on environmental monitoring to ensure environmental compliance, effective stakeholder communication, and proper implementation of environmental protection measures across a variety of infrastructure-related projects.
The role supports projects including high-voltage transmission lines, power generation, chemical manufacturing, aviation, and construction activities, with a strong emphasis on construction-phase environmental oversight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Construction Monitoring & Inspections: Conduct environmental site inspections, including erosion and sediment control inspections, and prepare detailed site inspection reports. Serve as the primary point of contact for project staff.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Liaise with landowners, municipal representatives, and construction personnel regarding project schedules and activities impacting property access.
  • Field Surveys & Data Collection: Assist with environmental field surveys, site assessments, and collection of project-related environmental data.
  • Environmental Investigations: Support subsurface soil sampling, stormwater monitoring, and erosion control efforts.
  • Stormwater Compliance: Develop and implement Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) for construction and operational activities.
  • Spill Prevention: Assist with developing and reviewing Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans.
  • Permitting & Compliance: Support regulatory review, permit identification, and preparation of environmental permit applications.
  • Technical Documentation: Assist in preparing environmental technical reports and compliance documentation.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure adherence to company and site safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Biology, Soil Science, or a related natural science discipline (preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years of related professional experience preparing SWPPPs, conducting inspections, and engaging stakeholders during active construction (preferred).
  • Active construction site experience with an understanding of contractor, subcontractor, and owner relationships.
  • Current stormwater inspection certification consistent with Oregon DEQ or Washington Department of Ecology, or ability to obtain within 2 weeks of employment.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic knowledge of environmental site assessment methods, environmental compliance, compliance audits, and the permitting process.
  • Familiarity with GPS and experience using ArcGIS Desktop preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain company vehicle driving privileges.
  • Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the country where the position is located without sponsorship.

Work Conditions
  • Approximately 75% travel; mostly day trips with occasional overnight stays.
  • When not in the field, work will be based out of the Richland, WA office.
  • No 9/80 schedule.
