Responsibilities include performing a variety of environmental inspecting, permitting, and testing duties, supervising assigned personnel, and providing information and education to the public. Also responsible for operating within departmental budget. Will receive and respond to complaints concerning housing, environmental pollutants, trash and related conditions.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing environmental and food sanitation, with ability to conduct investigations, perform testing and sampling procedures, and assure compliance with all legal requirements.
Candidates should have three to five years’ experience working in the public health field
Associate’s degree in environmental science, Public Health, Biology or related field preferred
Must be 21 years of age
Possess or ability to obtain certification as an Environmental Health Specialist I in the State of Indiana.
Knowledge of federal, state and local laws and regulations governing on-site sewage and wastewater disposal, in addition to obtaining independent certification in the design and installation of a variety of on-site disposal systems Working knowledge of Technology New to Indiana (TNI) for on-site sewage disposal systems (i.e. Presby Environmental® systems, etc.)
Successful candidates must have excellent communication, organization and computer skills. Must be able to work on a variety of tasks and understand rules of confidentiality. Must be comfortable working with the public. Could be on-call 24/7/365. Hourly pay rate up to $26.47 per hour.
