Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer

Location: Austin, TX (Onsite)
Pay Rate: $50 per hour, W2
Employment Type: Contingent / Contract
Duration: 12 months
Schedule: Day Shift | 40 hours per week
Positions Available: 2
Travel: Up to 25% (as needed)
Work Environment: Manufacturing / Cleanroom


Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer to support regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and safety leadership within a high-tech manufacturing environment. This role requires strong technical expertise in EHS programs, the ability to assess and reduce operational risk, and the interpersonal skills to influence safe behaviors across all levels of the organization.

The ideal candidate will balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution while collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement effective safety solutions that support personnel, equipment, and business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Champion workplace safety by providing leadership through communication, training, and proactive action

  • Deliver EHS training programs including (but not limited to): respiratory protection and fit testing, fall protection, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, and ergonomics

  • Perform detailed ergonomic assessments by collecting and analyzing employee and work environment data; evaluate risk and develop practical mitigation strategies

  • Research, interpret, and apply regulatory and industry safety standards including OSHA, NFPA, NEC, SEMI, and ANSI

  • Conduct PPE assessments, industrial hygiene evaluations, and other risk assessments; analyze findings and provide actionable recommendations

  • Lead and support incident investigations using root cause analysis methodologies to drive continuous improvement

  • Chair and participate in site safety committee meetings, ensuring closure of corrective and preventive actions

  • Support development and implementation of engineering and administrative controls to reduce risk to acceptable levels

  • Build strong internal and external partnerships to drive adoption of safety systems and promote safe work practices

  • Review, update, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and best-known methods (BKMs)

  • Provide safety coaching to employees and leadership and support regional EHS initiatives


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry, biology, industrial hygiene, safety, or a closely related field

    • Up to four (4) additional years of relevant experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Environmental Health & Safety

  • Strong preference for EHS experience in semiconductor or advanced manufacturing environments

  • Experience with industrial hygiene characterization, ergonomics, root cause analysis, and EHS compliance systems

  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations

  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, or CPE are a plus

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced environments

  • Demonstrated adaptability, reliability, and professionalism


Physical Requirements

  • Work may be performed in cleanroom and manufacturing environments

  • May require working in awkward positions, elevated areas, or confined spaces

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds

  • Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity required

  • Ability to bend, stoop, crawl, climb, and wear required PPE

  • Travel up to 25% may be required to support other U.S. facilities
