Entry Level Diesel Mechanic

Madden Industrial Craftsmen is seeking an Entry Level Diesel Mechanic for our client in Portland, OR. This role provides hands-on training in diesel equipment maintenance and repair while working under the guidance of experienced mechanics. The ideal candidate has completed or is currently enrolled in a Diesel Technology or Diesel Mechanics training program and is looking to build hands-on experience performing preventative maintenance, mechanical repairs, and basic troubleshooting on diesel-powered equipment.
Pay & Schedule
Pay: $29.36/hour
Shift: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior mechanics with inspection, maintenance, and repair of diesel-powered equipment and company vehicles
- Perform preventative maintenance on trucks, equipment, and facility assets
- Assist with mechanical repairs including engines, driveline components, and related systems
- Perform basic troubleshooting and repair of low-voltage electrical systems
- Change tires on company trucks and equipment as needed
- Assist with shop, building, and yard maintenance activities
- Operate forklifts, trucks, loaders, cranes, and other equipment as required
- Maintain accurate service records and complete required paperwork
- Maintain a clean and organized shop and work area
- Follow all safety procedures and use required PPE
Required Qualifications
- Completion of, or current enrollment in, a Diesel Technology or Diesel Mechanics training program
- Basic understanding of diesel engines and mechanical systems
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn under supervision
- Valid driver’s license required to operate company vehicles
- Ability to work safely around heavy equipment and moving machinery
- Ability to lift up to 55 lbs and perform physical tasks including standing, bending, pushing, and pulling throughout the workday
- Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous hands-on mechanical experience with trucks or heavy equipment
- Experience using air tools, grinders, and shop equipment
- Familiarity with hydraulic jacks, lifting equipment, or mechanical shop tools

Work Environment
This role operates in a heavy equipment maintenance and repair environment. Work includes exposure to mechanical equipment, shop tools, fuels, oils, and outdoor conditions. PPE and safety compliance are required at all times.
