Job Opening: Engineering Manager

Summary

  • Works closely with the Sr. Director of Quality and Engineering to translate the company technical vision and strategy at the tactical level
  • Manages the programming, tooling, material and human resources to assure CNC programs, manufacturing processes, tooling and fixtures are timely and cost effectively designed and developed to support production requirements.
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements best programming practices, tools and software’s by consulting industry experts and with software specialists
  • Identify, recommend, and implement best practices to effectively manage the company ERP foundations (Bills of Materials and Routings)
  • Identify, recommend, and implement best practices for managing Engineering documentation such as Process Drawings, Set-up documentation and tool sheets

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Enforces company safety policies within the engineering department
  • Conducts daily standup meeting in Engineering
  • Monitors KPIs for the Engineering department and determines corrective measure to be taken as needed
  • Creates and updates area metrics to show trends and to identify areas for improvement
  • Identifies and leads and/or sponsors Improvement Projects
  • Champions the use of 8D problem solving methodology by Engineering personnel
  • Champions the use of process capability data (SPC) to drive process improvements
  • Encourages risk based decision making in the development and improvement of manufacturing processes including participation and oversight of pFMEA activities
  • Oversees the quotation process
  • Reviews all incoming quotes and orders
  • Drives designs of manufacturing processes for products to be manufactured
  • Redesigns processes to improve throughput and manufacturing costs.
  • Oversees the creation of manufacturing documentation for use in production
  • Establishes review and approval process for routings, programs and tool lists prior to release to production
  • Manages the design of tooling and equipment to support production
  • Coordinates with Manufacturing Manager for on boarding of new personnel
  • Acts as a technical resource providing guidance and expertise for team members in their daily technical work
  • Standardizes processes for manufacturing core products and redesigns processes to improve throughput and manufacturing costs
  • Identifies and requests tooling, gauges and fixtures to support the manufacturing of products
  • Establish methods to identify deviations from agreed upon requirements as they occur
  • Manage and develop training plans for PEs, CNC programmers and others as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or MET Engineering required, with five plus years of relevant experience in specialized area or product line(s)
  • 1-2 years of demonstrated leadership experience required to include managing a group of personnel.
  • Proven experience in CNC programming of five axes machine tools
  • Ability to read, understand and create manufacturing drawings
  • Strong skills in use and interpretation of GD&T
  • Ability to use process capability (SPC) data to determine how to improve manufacturing processes
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team of 10 or more (programmers, tool designers, project leaders)
  • Demonstrated ability to independently create and implement functional and cost effective processes that meet complex specifications and requirements.
  • General understanding of internal economic factors (cost, margins, profit impact of decisions) affecting assignment areas
  • Good communications and interpersonal skills are critical in order to interface with and motivate all levels of personnel
  • Must be proficient in the use of CAD and Database systems related to Engineering functions. Previous direct CNC programming experience is a plus.
  • Strong skills in Project Management primarily related to launch of new processes and new equipment
  • Prefer certification as either Green Belt or Black Belt in Six Sigma

Computer Skills

  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with ERP Systems
  • Experience with CAD and CAM systems
  • Must be sufficiently competent to understand and support the daily needs of the employees managed in their use of MasterCAM, Solidworks and Epicor ERP software applications.
